Satellite Watchin'

Well, the clouds have just now covered enough of the sky to stop my satellite watching experience for the night. Before the clouds moved in, though, I saw a great view of IRIDIUM-36 pass in front of the Moon. It was cool.

If you want o do some satellite watching yourself, try these links. Both are JAVA Applets from NASA. You may already be familiar with them already, but if you're not:

NASA SkyWatch: Go to the "SkySearch" tab, tell it where you live, and let it tell you which of 300 sats you can see any given night. The applet has some other cool functions as well. http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/realdata/si ... aSSOP.html

J-Track 3D: This will allow you to track satellites from a database of over 500. I use it to get more info on whatever satellite I'm about to see, and to see where it is. http://liftoff.msfc.nasa.gov/RealTime/J ... ack3D.html

I used to watch the ISS go by every night it was possible, but cold weather put a stop to that. I love J-track, i used to have that site up every day to follow the different things in orbit, and even watched shuttle docking with Station on it.

I never even thought of watching them dock. I should have done that this weekend with Progress. I used to check the ISS Sightings page much more often than I do now, but I saw it too long ago.

its not all that i probably made it sound, its just the two dots moving toward each other and eventually becoming one, but the idea of what you are watching is cool

i liked watching the orbitor dock with the iss your right the idea and lil site you have is hella cool
