Shuttle on Discovery Channel

I don't know if this is just in Canada, but on Discovery channel tonight there are a couple of shows about the shuttle. Check your TV guide to see if it is on is your area.

LOL well monkeynautt beat me to it i had just gotten on to post about this when i read her post about it. Discovery Channel will be airing these programs in the US as well starting at 9 pm EST. The first one is called "Coming Home the Science of Reentry" and the second one is called "Columbia's Final Mission 16 Days" Both programs should be intresting to watch.

Well i'm going to watch it and i have my VCR set to tape it also to add to my columbia collection of recordijngs i've been making since the accident.

I'm watching this program now on a pip screen on my computer (we're on commercial break, so I have a chance to type). The program is fabulous. These two programs are going to eclipse each other a bit. This one mentions STS-107 and the program about the 107 mission will probably have a bit of technical info about reentry. I like this program because it is simple to understand but not really dumbed down to the point of being useless.

The graphics are good, too, and really help you understand things. The program provides a good, understandable explination of the disaster, which is nice to know. It is hard to sort through all of the stuff on the 'Net, and you often miss things.

I really liked the first one because I wasn't quite with all of the re-entry stuff. The second program I liked too because it was a really nice tribute.

I thought both programs were excellant. The tribute was very well done and i'm personally glad they ended that one with the flight deck film and didnt show the breakup that way you could remember the crew happy and carefree.

Dang it!! I knew there was something I meant to do before I left for church tonight. I found out about the programs at my grandparents this weekend and was bound and determined to tape them.

I agree. I really like the way they ended the tribute. I liked that it focused on the people and not the event. They never really got morbid about anything and that was great.

That was a great set of shows. I agree that it was a well done tribute with the footage they used instaed of the usual footage that makes us think of the worst and not of the people that made the mission possible. Thanks for posting the alert to the list as I wouldn't have seen it otherwise.

Okay anyway, yeah a lot of the times with this 107 thing, people tend to overlook what the mission actually accomplished. I don't know why they think this, much like I don't know why some people think that the Space Shuttle is a one-use vehicle, but a lot of people think that nothing was accomplished. I mean yeah some of it is a little burned, but they still got lost of useful data. Watching the shows, it was amazing how much stuff they managed to get done.

i also thought the first one was very good. i feel asleep before the second one started though..i was tired. theyll probably have a repeat of it, right?

I heard something about an encore presentation of either the first or the second show. But as most shows go, there's a good chance you will see it again sometime.

They ussualy reshow new programs over the weekend so i would look for it there. I know they said they wpould be reshowing it on the Discovery Science Channel if you have digital cable.

Your listings may be different, but you can see Coming Home From Space: The Challenge of Reentry June 29th at 4pm. Other than that, find a friend who has the Discovery Science channel because neither of the shows are sceduled to play again on any other channel.

Well tahts atleast for the forseeable future. I'm guessing it might play again sometime down the road like before the launch of the return to space but i wouldn't count on that so if you can see it on the 29th you should.

Good point. That's what I had to do when my family decided to go to FL while I'm at camp.
