Interesting Academy II Photo

Post by Kemara »

According to a Twitter post, this photo was taken in 1990, SA II. I've never seen teams wearing different colored flight suits....blue/gray, orange and teal? And the patches on the teal suits are different than the others. Has anyone else seen this?

Actually it wasn't the teams which wore different colored flight suits, rather the different tracks wore different color flight suits. If I remember correctly green was for aero (pilot), grey was for engineering (mission specialist), orange was for...I think they called it technical? (payload specialist).
The different tracks filled the different positions during sims, some different lectures and did some different activities. Aero was pilot/commander/station commander/flight director. They had an extra session at aviation challenge flying the simulators. Engineering did all the EVAs and handled a lot of the routine tasks around the station (changing LIOH cannisters, cleaning up, acting as test subjects for the medical stuff that Tech did). Technical handled the medical stuff and did a lot of the experiments in the shuttle and station. Engineering got to scuba. I think Tech might have too, but I don't remember exactly.
Each team was made up of, I think, about 8 members from each track. So a full team would have been about 24 people.

Interesting, I do not remember that. I was in Camp and Level I around that time. By the time I made it to Level II (1994) the different colored flightsuits were gone.
