Yep when you have 5 or 6 judges judging a category and their are 50 or more essays then the judges are going to eliminate any they can to cut down on the load.

I can understand why, but I would still want to read them all later. I mean if someone took the time to write an essay outside of school about space it would grab my attention.

Even reading all of the space ones for a single age group would take a good amount of time to do. And some of them really arent good quality Essays. Some to me seemed like they were required to do them or something because there was verry little research put into some of them. But there were also some verry good ones as well. I particularly like the space journalism category although that wasnt the main one i judged i helped out with it because it was taking so long to judge and some of the judges needed to leave. I had signed up to judge the design a mars mission category but it was filled up so i primarily judged the watching earth changes categoy. I believe we had essays from 7 diffrent states. All the essays were divided up between the diffrent NASA research centers each covering several states.

Okay okay if they weren't good quality I wouldn't like to read them. We do the peer editing things too, and I always end up with like 7 of them to do b/c "I'm so good at it" although I'm not really. That's sad though that people didn't put a whole lot of effort into it.

Well the more fun ones to grade are the Aerospace journalism entries. They can be essays, audio tapes, or video tapes. But one video that we saw just as an example oif bad research had so many errors in it it didnt even have a chance. The students on the video were talking about the ISS but they showed the american space shuttle launching zvezda from moscow russia. Those are the ones i can remember anyway but first of all the space shuttle doesn't launch russian pieces, second the shuttle doesnt launch from russia at all, and third the russians dont even launch from russia they launch from kazakstan. The only thing that was cool is all thre students on the video had space camp flight suits.

Thats a lot of mistakes. However, I have to admit, those flight suits are pretty darn spiffy.

Well unfortunately the flight suits were the best thing about the video. If they had gotten their facts straight though they would have had a real chance of winning.

Sara Hardin...I was on the Shepard Team. Judging by where you are from, I think I met you on the way there from the airport. I think I vaguely remember someone saying they were from New York.

Some Apple Game

I remember you, Sara. I don't think we had much contact, except for when we waiting to go to the airport. If memory serves, we played some apple game.

Its a game one of the counselors brought down for us to play in the bottom of the hab. Its where everyone gets a certain number of cards that are green and they have proper nouns or just nouns on them. Then whoever is leading the round picks up a red card with an adjective on it and everyone has to put in a card that then think best goes with the adjective.

For example: the card was sexy

I put in giant squid and it won over marilyn monroe and Im not sure how

Another example: the card was scary

Well, Michael Jackson won by default. But some of the other ones were grizzly bears, bubbles, etc.

You basically either want to put something totally funny and absurd (like putting giant squid for sexy) or get close to a good description. It is all up to the player that is judging the round to pick who put in the best card. The winner of the round gets to keep the card, and the person with the most cards at the end or when you decide to quit is the winner. My christmas team totally got addicted to it. Every time we got free time, we were playing that game until our counselor yelled at us enough to make us stop.

Ok sounds better then the card game we played all the time called mafia. Don't ask me to explain it because i din't remember how its played. I know the one girl who didnt want to be there got us playing it and convinced our counselor to have us do that during most of our free time and during our museum time.
