Everybody on my team thought that PAO was a very bad postion in mission control. I am reading Chris Kraft's book and he states that PAO is a job that is need. The PAO is the person resopiable for NASA getting it money, if it weren't for PAO NASA responsible would not have goverment funding. The PAO makes things easy for a president and the non-NASA people understand what is being said.

PAO is sometimes grouped with SHPI and SIPI. I'm reading Krafts book now, too. In real life, the PAO is much more important because the press has to bring stuff to the world. In camp sims, the PAO is just repeating stuff that everyone knows. In ASA, if you get a ton of anomalies like my group did, the PAO can be helpful in handling them because they don't have too much to do (that is important, anyway). If there are no anolmalies, it can get very important.

Who was running your sim? In our EDM, Brent and Drea were going nuts. They broke a ton of rules on the number of anomalies and how many you can have at a time. It was a blast, but everyone was neccessary.

Have you read Kranz's book?

Every year i went to space camp the PAO was the most hated moct position because it is also the most useless. At camp the PAO basicly reports whats happening with the mission to an imaginary audience.

I think whoever said that the PAO position is grouped with SSPI and SHPI at ASA. Really its a useless position since there is no press or public to convey information to. At Space camp and Space Academy the PAO position is a seperate one. As for the books i met Chris Kraft and have an autographed copy of his book and found it to be excellant but definately one sided.

We can all knock PAO but we did get very valuble information when columbia went down! They are usefull.

PAO is a very important job in real life, its just at camp...well its not quite the same. In the edm you have about an hour and a half of reading and the rest is just down time. On the upside, if you pay attention you can avert most problems and solve all the others first.

But, its only truely boring if your not into it or you aren't really trying.

Well yes PAO is in an important job in real life. Just look at ,any of my post under the Columbia topic. Most are PAO announcements. I'm thankful i never had the job as far as mocr goes i've on;y been flight director and SSO.

I've been Flight 5 times (three in ASA, including the EDM, once in FL, and once in Academy). I can't get away from it. Even when I want something else they stick me there. The only other job I've been was Booster/Prop in Academy.

I think Flight is the best MOCR position... There is a big responsibility and you also stay very busy

I was SSPI the second year and that was alot of fun... everybody aboard station died because there was a fire and I didn't have the common sense to tell them to put on there space suits.

I was only flight for one of the 1 hour missions but i loved it. Kept thinking of Gene Kranz in Apollo13.

In the edm Carlos was running the program. He and Tony didn't give us that many anolmalies because we were the frist to try the revamped Enterprise. They knew that the Enterprise had its own anolmalies. One such anolmaly was the commander or the pilot seat could not type one comand in the comand consle. Plus our group was short changed in some ways becuse we didn't have a PS crew. We where also short chaged in experience of lift off by not having the sub-woofers not kicking in till the end of the flight.

I was in MOCR right after you guys. Brent and Drea were going crazy with us. The crews had similar problems, but nothing like we had. Many were our own fault. For example, nobody bothered to watch the waste levels, and so Enterprise's crew was covered in their own byproducts. I'm glad I didn't have to clean that one up.
