Looks like today's a scrub. From NASA's website:

Dec. 6, 10 a.m. EST: During tanking, two of four LH2 Engine Cutoff (ECO) sensors failed to respond appropriately, which is a Launch Commit Violation. The requirement to proceed calls for 3 of 4. The launch was scrubbed at 9:56 a.m. EST on the recommendation of Launch Director Doug Lyons.

Mission Management Team Chairman LeRoy Cain concurred following a short briefing on the issue. The ice inspection team will proceed with an abbreviated vehicle inspection prior to offloading the LO2 and LH2 and recycle for a launch attempt tomorrow, at 4:09 p.m.

A press briefing is tentative scheduled for 3 p.m. An update is forthcoming on NASA TV.

I just read this too. Too bad I will not have computer access tomorrow, so no NASA TV for me. I hope CNN will have it and that I will have access to cable TV around 2 PM tomorrow.

Check this out...

The shuttle's crew includes commander Steve Frick and former professional football player Leland Melvin. He was drafted by the Detroit Lions in 1986, and used his chemistry and engineering degrees to launch a NASA career after hamstring injuries forced him out of the NFL.

Launch is now delayed until January. I figured they would do this because they won't want the shuttle up over New Year's and that doesn't give them a very big launch window to fix the problem with. (they brought the shuttle back early a few years ago to avoid having it up over New Years)

Actually it had more to do with. The suns angle if launched later the station would not beable to generate enough power for docked operations. Since they wont have this problem fixed by the 18th they wont launch. The software worries are also a concern but i think they want the time to make sure the problem is fixed.

I just read something interesting. It seems NASA doesn't want a shuttle in orbit during a change in the year (2007 to 2008) due to potential Y2K type software glitches. That's why the launch was rescheduled to no earlier than Jan 10th.

It's on the web, so it must be true, right?

The latest launch date is no earlier than 10 January.

NASA is now saying Thursday, February 7. Three more weeks.
