STS-117 launch date set

Post by Boomerang »

NASA has set the recised launch date for STA-117 following the hail damage that occurred last month. The new launch date is scheduled for no earlier than June 8th and will use ET-121 which was the damaged tank. ET-117 the tank scheduled for the 118 mission will be available if needed, Roll out to the pad is expected early next month. The launch window runs till Mid July the article on NASA.gov article didnt mention when 118 will launch now but i'm guessing it will also be delayed. It looks like the last flight scheduled for this year to carry the Japanese laboratory will now launch early net year.

We get to go whenever the launch is. :-)

But, if I have to fly there on my own bill (if they won't fly me from Canada), I won't be able to afford to go.

Cool. I just checked Wikipedia and saw that there's a good 5 or so missions scheduled in the next year... nice to see we're finally back in full swing... sort of. It seems like ever since the disaster, we've been having more and more problems spring up... just goes to show you we really are in need of the next generation of space flight.
The less time spent in Orion Bay, the better.

Well there were 5 scheduled for this year they are now shooting for 4. As for more problems popping up the truth is they were always there. The diffrence is we are paying more attention to things that in the past seemed insignificant like foam shedding, weather conditions even more so than in the past, ability to film the launch as long as possible etc
