I'm shooting for the August 6th Pilot track date... Since thats the last date they offer Pilot without scuba. Not that I have anything against scuba, I would just rather fly the sims at AC than scuba dive.

I wonder if August 6th will be a really busy time? Its still summer, but late summer. I wont have the money till probably July or so, so I'll only be able to register a month in advance. Hope they still have spots.

I had considered going for a later date (November) to avoid big crowds, but will it really be any less busy in November? Is it worth the wait and giving up flying the mach II sims at AC? Will the teams be smaller in winter than summer?

Space Camp will definitely be less busy in November than it would be in July or August. Your team will be smaller too, which has advantages and disadvantages.

Personally, I like the smaller teams and less crowds of the autumn sessions. The weather is a bit more bearable for me too. Others have different opinions though.

I think winter camps still use the sims at AC, but I could be wrong. Counsellors, please advise on this.

Either way, you'll have a great time at ASA!

If I attend the 6 day ASA this year, will I be able to sign up for the adult ASA 8 day program next year? It says the 8 day program is for alumni of the Adult or Youth "5 day Program"...

Yes, next year I'll be 19.

In winter they may do both SCUBA and the Mach III sims, but I'm not sure. Winter session is different... Counsellors could tell you more.

As for the alumni week, you will definitely qualify if you have been to the youth ASA programme this summer.

Hope that helps.

No, they only do Pilot w/ scuba in November. The last day for Pilot where you train on the Mach 2 sims is August 6th. After August 6th, you can't do they Mach 2 sims in the pilot track. At least thats what I gather from there website. So its not a matter of choosing, its a matter of what session you sign up for that will determin what sim you do, Scuba or Mach 2.

Really I think it sucks in a way, because that forces everyone who wants to do the Mach 2 sims into a smaller time frame. I can't see a reason why the fall/winter pilot tracks dont use the mach 2 sims.... But thats just me.
However, you still get to choose which track you wanna take (Pilot or Mission Specialist).

"Extra Time"? You mean in the off season, you get "More time"? Hows this managed, programs are still 6 days long.

I only had extra time in ASA, and we would just hang out as a team.

I never had extra time at AC.

Programs are still 6 days long but there are a lot less kids trying to use different resources at one time. For instance it takes two teams less time to do their training on the sims than it does 6 teams... This leaves a little bit of extra time to mess around or just have less hectic schedules.

Oh yes, that is included in all the US Space Camp programmes, plus a whole lot more! Well, you won't be 'in space' but it's the next best thing.

So, the bottom line is: If I sign up for the Pilot Track, I will get to either be Pilot or Commander on the shuttle at some point for sure, even if its just the 1 hour missions?

Thats my only concern: Never getting to actually fly the [darn] shuttle
