Race to Space

Post by ApolloXI »

I turned on my local UPN station and I saw something I never saw on a UPN station before a Space Race movie. Movie looks ok but it has alot of errors.
 WHY CAN'T HOLLYWOOD USE ACTUAL FACTS!!!!
So far I have seen at least two major errors
1. They make it seem that the German Rocket engineers are based in FL not Huntsville
2. No mention of Von Braun

Seems alot of movies try to make something look scientific factual or historical and fail miserably.
A movie called Rockets Red Glare comes to mind it was a made for Tv movie on Family Channel. In it some kids grandfather a former astronaut who runs a museum that houses the Mercury Capsule that was to be used for a flight after Coopers to be flown by Sheppard. This capsule does exist by the way the flight was canceled though due to all of mercury's objectives being achieved and the need to move onto Gemini. Well the grandfather also finds the rocket that was supose to be used here is the first problem. It is a Redstone not an Atlas. They build a whole replica launch complex in the midwest somewhere. Then when a shuttle has problems in orbit and needs a repair part NASA turns to them to launch the rocket and rendevous with the shuttle carrying the part. They seem to forget the Redstone coulsdnt reach orbit. And that the Mercury capsule didnt have an EVA Hatch. Not to mention the redstone would have even more trouble launching from the midwest being fuurther from the equator. Enjoyable movie but full of more holes than swiss cheese.

Haha... whoa, now that's a lot of factual errors!
The less time spent in Orion Bay, the better.
