Saving Space Camp...What can we do?
I know that financially things sound like they're looking up for SC, but I know they're not out of the woods yet. We all know they had many neat plans for expansion at one time (Trek camp, monorail, ect.) I was wondering how we might be able to help out.
I realize that most people who attend SC are children and teens and that the tuition is already very expensive even during the off season. I'm sure we'd all say that it's worth it, but the fact remains that many kids who want to go just can't afford it. I'm more than willing to help out by paying $900 for a week in the fall. Everyone benefits: They get my money and I have fun. But then...I have a full-time job and can afford to go.
But maybe we could do more than that...maybe we could raise some money for them ourselves, by getting people to make donations or something. I'm sure they need several million, but every bit helps. Does this sound interesting? I don't know how we could go about it, or even if we could raise money for them legally, but we could look into it, put the word out to old team mates.
I love SC, and I want it to be there for my children and grandchildren to enjoy...I want its technology to keep up with the times as much as possible, and they need funds to do that. Any thoughts?

Youd be amazed how much a little bit of money here and their can help. Kids have raised alot of money for things over the years. Heck a campaign my school kids in north carolina got my grandfathers World War 2 battle ship brought to NC and turned into a museum. A little money her and a little money their could do alot if it was raised then donated to the camp. Who knows maybe if we did do something big they wouldinvite us to come down and present it and give us the VIP treatment.

Well, I don't think they're quite at the point where they need the money so badly as to accept such donations and, personally, I think the state would bail them out if things got that scary...
...however, if you really want to help them out, I would really recommend getting a membership!
The USSRC gets money, and you get a bunch of cool benefits. Even if you don't make it to the USSRC while you're a member, membership will still get you into many other museums around United States and the world for free!
So, chances are, even if you can't use a USSRC membership, you probably can use a USSRC membership!
At least for now, this is what I would urge anyone reading this to do...
...I have mine! Get yours!

also do not forget, you can donate to the Space Camp Scholarship Endowment fund to help deserving kids the chance to go to camp, when they might not otherwise be able to. You can do this right on your registration, or at spacecamp.com.

Could work or not
I have a small idea for Space Camp.
I just got an idea Space Camp should make a special for PBS, Discovery, History channel, or whatever about the life of Von Braun. Our local PBS has low budget films on local people. They could rent the supplies from a studio or filming company. Most of the time the PBS and other stations like it will pick it up and buy it. This means that Space Camp will lose money for a short time but the royalties they could gain money. Plus if the HQ likes the film such Boston’s' PBS that will mean more stations though out the country will buy. They might even get better equipment to make a better version for the whole country. Plus they must have a Space Camp and Huntsville logo in the beginning and end. With a phone # to call for info on Space Camp.

Thats an intresting idea but if they cant even put pictures in their brochure anymore i seriously doubt they would do anything like that.

Well as far asa the advertising for the centenial of flight that was done by the space and rocket center and i'm sure some of the funding is diffrent for each. Space Camp seems to spend little money on advertisement these days i dont think they would foot the bill for something like that. As for the remodelling ussuaky a budget is divided up so they would have so much money set aside for that and so much for advertising to put more into one would take away from something else. Personally i would rather see the remodelling done and not have the money transferred away from that for something that might get picked up by a few
PPBs Stations around the country. Just my opinion.

I agree
I agree but this is almost no information Von Bruan ou there. I think that I could wait until they either have more money and the remodling is done.

True i would like to see something like that too i mean they can do movies on Hitler but not on the man who launched Americas space program literaly. I'd like to see it either as a documentary or a tv movie with actors playing the roles of the people kind of like they did with From the Earth to the Moon exceot about Vonbraun but then with something like that wed be getting away from the space camp doing it idea.

Actually what i meant was there isnt much in the way of documentaries. I know there are plenty of books out there on him. But most documentaries have a small mention of him near the beginning and then he seems to be forgotten when talking about the space race.

They always seem to skip over him in what I watch. They skip straight from oh vonBraun came over to, we're going to the moon. They never really say much about him.

They both went under because of financial issues. Thats the simplified version of the whole mess. I can't remember if they were considering re-opening California or Florida.
