Forum for Civil Air Patrol

Figured this was as good a place as any to post...

I've started an unofficial forum for members of Civil Air Patrol and those interested in CAP.

You can find it at FlyingMinutemen.com.

I never fully understood the civil air patrol thing despite the best efforts of this kid named paul who tried to explain it to me at camp. The only part i got was that they occasionally go on rescue missions and that they practice for them a lot.

"Short Version:"

Civil Air Patrol is the volunteer civilian auxillary of the United States Air Force. CAP is tasked with three primary missions-

1. Aerospace Education- aerospace education of the general public
2. Cadet Program- program for youth ages 12-18
3. Emergency Services- perform air and ground Search and Rescue operations under the primary guidance of the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center.

CAP has exsisted since before the foundation of the USAF (CAP was founded Dec 1, 1941).

After the terrorist attacks of 9/11, CAP aircrews were the first aircraft on scene and overhead of Ground Zero. CAP provides 95% of all inland search and rescue operations in the United States.

CAP was recently featured on CNN as part of it's "Defending America" series. You can view the feature here.
