Sean O'Keefe resigns. Who can blame him?
What's this mean for NASA?
Anyone have any information as to if O'Keefe was holding NASA back at all, or was he rather liberal with them? Just curious.

Well Okeefe has done some good and bad for NASA. Not all of it completely his fault. Remember before this he was the director of the office of management and budget. And even then he helped NASA in some ways like supporting NASA finishing the ISS wghen congress was about ready to cut the program due to so many cost over runs. He has supported the Bush moon mars initiative whole heartedly but sometimes its atthe detriment of other NASA programs especially aviation programs. Then there was the Hubble decision that has been widely criticised but that was a combined resuklt of fear for crew safety after Columbia last year and redirecting money toward other programs related to the iss and moon mars initiative. At the same time he got the agency through the Columbia accident and aftermath and in my opinion handled the whole situation much better than was done with Challenger in 1986. So to me he hasdone a decent job in the posituion but he has had huis good and bad points. The top contender to replace him is a former General who was in chargeof the Air Force Missile Command and their are also several former astronauts on the short list as well. So we'llhave to see what happens.

Here is the KSC directors commentary on O'keefes retirement.12.13.04

RELEASE: 98-04
KSC DIRECTOR STATEMENT CONCERNING ADM. O'KEEFE ANNOUNCEMENT
Kennedy Space Center Director Jim Kennedy stated the following for
public release regarding NASA Administrator Sean O'Keefe's
announcement.
"Sean O'Keefe's tenure as our administrator is defined by brilliant
leadership and bold action and NASA is a better agency now than prior
to his arrival. He courageously led us through both the Columbia
tragedy and the investigation that followed. Sean's leadership
transformed our structure and culture, paving the way for our Space
Shuttle's successful return to flight in 2005. But without a doubt,
his greatest legacy is America's new Vision for Space Exploration.
Working with the President, his administration and Congress, it's now
the official space policy of the United States that will take NASA
back to the Moon, then to Mars and beyond. It was evident from the
very beginning he cares about the NASA and contractor family and it
inspired us all to achieve greatness. The entire KSC family wishes
Sean, Laura and their family the very best in their future!"

acording to the locale news here in Melbourne, Fl they say that Pre. Bush choses who wil replace O'Keefe. I just hope they chose someone that will not say yes to Pre Bush's 90 day plan becuase I read it and it looks like a pice of trash.
