NASA's budget

Post by Boomerang »

Well guys amazingly Congress has actually approved a budget increase for NASA next year. the budget climbs from 15.5 billion dollars to 16.2 billion which is the ammount they were seeking. this is great however according to the article on space.com it doesnt clearly spell out what uit is to be used for specificly. Which means NASA will probably keep pumping cash into the moon mars initiative which most people think and i agree is going to go nowhere but may get a few gains like a shuttle replacement out of it. But at the same time it will hurt other NASA programs. I know talking to Langley engineers its already hurting the aviation side of NASA. Well anyway here is the space.com article. http://www.space.com/news/nasa_budget_041122.html

According to a November 2003 report by Barna Research Group and the
Baptist Press, Americans are spending - in ONE year - an average of:

$586.5 billion on gambling;

$80 billion on illegal drugs;

$58 billion on alcohol consumption;

$31 billion on tobacco products, and;

$250 billion on the medical treatment of gambling, tobacco, drug and
alcohol related diseases

Additionally, for ONE year. . .

$224 billion was spent to eat out;

$191 billion was spent on personal water craft;

$67 billion was spent on frozen dinners;

$25 billion was spent on gardening;

$22.1 billion was spent on hunting;

$21.3 billion was spent on extravagant pet products, and;

$15 billion was spent on junk food snacks.

. . .But NASA's $15 billion a year budget is considered "Not Affordable"
