What I understood her as saying was that the fire alarm went of in her building at 2 am so they all had to go outside which meant standing in the snow. i could be wrong though

maybe she doesnt either so its like for whatever reason there was a fire alarm and that was the annoying part bc they had to stand in the snow

We had a fire warning at school once that caused us to have to run from my high school down the hill to the elementary gym in like 30 degree weather with no coats on (cold air, might i add, is much harder to breathe when running). Then later we found out that some of the wiring in our lights smolderd a very little bit and a teacher pulled the fire alarm. We couldnt enter the building for like 4 hours because of it. It was all quite dumb but nobody burned up so i guess thats what matters lol.
Then we had a tornado warning on my last day as a senior that caused me to have to stand in the bathroom for like 3 hours with like 10 other students and teachers. It was a very small bathroom...

the night before i left for christmas camp last year, there was some small wiring problem, and the fire alarms went off at like 3:30am (i had a 7 oclock plane to catch). i dont hear it, but my mom does and wakes up and get me and my grandma up (who was visiting for the holidays). she comes back into my room and im standing in the middle and im like what do i do? shes like pull on some more clothes. so all i could find (cause everything was packed) was a pair of jazz pants. so i pull those on with a sweatshirt and grab my parakeet. well, i didnt plan this out too well, and i take him out of his cage. lol, well, max isn't the most social bird, so he had a little fit which included biting me. so im like well, if thats how youre going to be...so i got him back in his cage (while the piercing sound of a fire alarm is going off) and cover his cage (please help me on the reason i did this...) with a blanket. so i go into my moms room (which is where my packed suitcase was) and grabed my camp forms, my wallet (for id) and my christmas present for my aunt and uncle and walk outside with the others in our 90+ apartments building with their little puppies and other furry family members. there i was standing in the parking lot for about an hour before they cleared us to go back in, in a blanket and very thin clothes in the snow (its the end of december in minnesota....theres a LOT of snow!) with my camp forms in hand.
lol, theres my snow/fire alarm story!

okay heres my wonderful fire alarm story. i was at the USAFA tennis camp and was really tired , my feet were one big blister, and my toe nail had just fallen off (it was so icky) and they had made us run the lines 19 times. i was in a world of pain. so i climb the ten zillion steps to my room on the sixth floor of the dormatory. and i go to sleep. so at like 8 i wake up. everyone is talking about some fire drill. i totally slept through it. as did my cadet counselor. and i guess they just didnt care that i totally slept through the drill.

It looks as though hurricane Ivan is headed towards Central and North Alabama! Oh no!!
See the National Weather Service Hurricane Page
Any word how/if this will affect Huntsville? I do not know much about hurricanes, but they look like some wicked terrible storms. I would really hate to arrive at camp to find it in shambles from Ivan. HELP!

well sadly enough im glad its not heading this way considering we cant take much more rain....theres nowhere else to put all the water...not to mention florida..
well huntsville is pretty far inland sorta so maybe the hurricane will not be as strong by the time it gets there...hell, it might now hit there at all the way these hurricanes are...so unpredictable

Hailing from GA. Yeah, I think Ivan probably hit Northern Alabama. On all the local shots that's where it's centered. And we got it pretty bad here, I mean winds of 60 mph and such... Although I know it was just a tropical storm here, I don't know what it would've been in Huntsville :'( I hope too much damage wasn't done. Lol. I'm remembering having to go into the very bottom of Hab 2 (the administation building with all the housing for Space Camp trainees, I think that's Hab 2) just for the tornadoes and thunderstorms in the summers. I can't imagine what it must be like for them to buckle down for a hurricane, and I think they would've, since even my school closed down yesterday and we're on the outskirts. Wow.

According to the weather reports on the SCI-VIS website (since the SCI-VIS camp starts this weekend), as well as the NOAA website, show the hurricane centre was quite east of Huntsville. Winds 20-35 Mi/h with gusts up to 50 mi/h.
A quote from the SCI-VIS website:
Hurricane IVAN has had virtually no impact on programs thus far, short of the inconvenience of locally heavy rain showers and gusty winds. The northeasterly track continues at a faster pace than first forecast and indications are IVAN will have little or no impact on arrivals tomorrow. Forecasters predict any remaining rain will be ending by mid morning on Friday.
We got some wicked weather here last night too - looked like a hurricane in some spots! Loads of rain, and snow in some areas. Global warming... ha! That's funny!
