Windbreakers

Post by SpaceCanada »

Oh yes, the windbreakers! I still have my USSRC windbreaker, and it is beyond me why they say USSRC instead of the programme name.

Another bizarre thing is why they changed all the uniform bottoms to have the tri-logo on them instead of the programme name. Although putting the programme name in block letters down the leg was a little out-dated, they could just as easily place the single programme logo on the pants like they used to do on the shorts.

Just another quirk about the changes over the years.

I kinda like all three logos on there. I didn't ever get a windbreaker :(. I guess y'all just outdate me as space campers.

I know... I'm getting old... old... ahhhh!!! Okay, so I'll only be 21 in a few weeks, but it's still too old for the regular Space Camp programmes. I considered myself old when I graduated from secondary school in 2000 and no longer met the requirements to go back to camp without going in the adult group.

Oh well, I enjoyed it while it lasted, and I will return in a few years as an "adult" to check out what the Adult Advanced Academy is all about. (I wish I could go sooner...)

Until then, enjoy being young enough to attend Camp! ;)

Well i still have my Aviation Challenge sweats and wind breakerAlthough the sweats are the older style with the big lettering down the leg. I still have my old green AC shorts somewhere too. Dont know what ever happened to the shirt that came oin the clothign package though. My AC windbreaker has US Space And Rocket Center on it but that year i think they all did which suprised me. One other clothing item i nremember from my first 2 years but neve got a pairwere the old blue shorts with the camp or academy logo on their and velcro strips for the flight suit name tag similar to what the astronauts wear in orbit, I know some people who got them as part of their clothing package but i ended up with a diffrent style. I wish i still had my shirts from Camp and Academy but i dont know what happened to them over the yeares. I also still have a really old windbreaker from 91 it was white in color but somewhat transparent. It had US Space Camp in blue lettering on it. But the most important thing i have is my old space camp flight suit that i want to pass on to my kids when they go to camp in the future.

Back before the clip on name tags they had pin on ones. Youve probably seen ones like this before. It basicly a plastic sleabe open on both ends that the name tag is self is slid into. The tags themselves had the name of the program, your name and home city and state but no program logos and the tag itself was just white oin color. Also instead of the tags being verticle they were horizontal. Most of us at camp just pinned them oun our visors i saw academy people who did the same on their hats.

Yes in those days the hats had to be worn atleast our counselors made us and it seemed like so did all the other ones. Atleast it was that way in 91. By 93 the counselors seemed a little more lenmient. Some people never wore their academy hats some of us bought nicer NASA hats then their was one girl who had brought her own hat and wore it everywhere but the swimming pool. And theirb were a few who wore the academy hats we were given but they werent as nice as the older ones i saw in 91.

oh no, i bet you mine was worse...
i refused to go to sick bay to get aloe and was in total pain till i was forced to go. my counselor quite literally had to drag me there.
it hurt. badly.
i have graduation pics from my uncle and i am a tomato (in fact i think my counselor may have even called me that... :x ).

i know...TOTAL hat hair. it's bad enough in the winter, but people are nice since everyone has it.

sick bay is scary. i think besides predives and meds, ive only been there once besides the time i was forced (and ive been to camp three times). that other time i went with a friend who needed an icepack. i needed tylenol for this incredibly bad headache but got so scared when i got there, i left once we got the ice. scary scary scary.

im irish so the whole sun thing doesn't work for me. i get burned when im out for only five mins. not fun. this year, maybe i should actually wear sunscreen. hmmm. :D

now that i think about it, i think she called me a lobster. lol...anyhoo...

Several years ago, I went to camp the week after I had hockey camp in BC. At HC, I had my finger partially (mostly) severed. That's a whole other (disgusting) story, though. All the dried tissue on my finger made it look like a charred hot dog. Yuck!

Every night, I had to unbandage it to shower and then go back to sickbay to have it redone. I got pretty friendly with the nurses...
