How'd they do the microgravity effects for Apollo 13? Vomit Comet?

Actually yes they built a LM and CM set in the vomit commet with removable cameras for filming and they did the parabolic arcs and filmed when they were floating. And on top of tat i heard Ron Howard made the temperature on the set the same as it was on the real flight for even more realism.

If you watch Apollo 13 with the director commetry on he talks about how he did that. Not all the shots were done on the vomit comet. It's quite amazing because it is hard to tell the difference between what was on the ground and what was filmed in the air.

How did they make them float if they aren't doing the whole gravity thing. Well of course some of the shots take place on Earth, but I am talking about the shots in space.

A lot of the close-ups were done on the ground and full body shots were done in the air.

I'd heard that about Apollo 13. In the 5 times I've watched Space Camp since I found it last week I'd begun to pick up on a lot of the details mentioned above.

My aunt gave it to me last fall and I lost it not too long afterwards. Plus my sisters wanted to watch it too.

I can recite Apollo 13 by memory and I have never noticed that any of it looked as if it were done on the ground.

I did notice a few scenes that appeared to have been shot on the ground, but other than that it's very well done.

I didn't know until I read it in the forum. They always looked like they were floating to me. I don't blame them though because that many shots in the Vomit Comet would work wonders on even the strongest digestive system.

They definitely did a great job with the filming. Makes you wonder if Haise getting sick in the movie was real or not. I figured they must have done some of the upclose stuff on the ground i mean besides the nausea you also have to think the weightlessness only last a matter of seconds so it would take a long time to film like that.

Haha yeah filming a lengthy movie using a vomit comit would probably make just about anyone sick, considering they never only shoot one shot once.

It wasn't real. he had some stuff in his mouth that he had to spit out.
