That's what the return to flight guy from MSFC was talking to us about, right?

Then he would totally deny it when he woke up and we were staring at him. It was quite funny really. You also had a pretty nice drawing of the shuttle stack as well! lol

They redesigned the tank, which will preclude the recurrance of STS-107's problems. But where is the foresight? Surely there are other things wrong with the Space Shuttle. Is anybody even thinking about them? Do we only fix things after they have proven fatal?

That's so totally wrong. If you would be up to date you would know those things. Read the 'Columbia Accident Investigation Report' and you will know.
The board recognized early on tha the accident was probably not an anomalous, random event, but rather likely rooted to some degree in NASA's history and the human space flight program's culture. Accordingly, the Board broadened its mandate at the outset to include an investigation of a wide range of historical and organizational issues, including political and budgetary consideration, compromises, and changing priorities over the life of the Space Shuttle Program.
The have recommendations for every aspect of the program. From Shuttle, to launchpad/buildings to ... everything.

first off..i've read the entire CAIB report and NASA is working to fix those problems...you can't just say that nothing is improving because a paragraph states that...think about how long the shuttle hasn't flown...i don't think that's because they just want to let it sit inside the orbiter processing facility and get rusty.....NASA engineers are fixing it and getting it ready to fly...and yes some of us ARE up to date on the shuttle...i go on the nasa website at least 2 times a day to check progress reports on the shuttle and other everyday news

*soooo incredibly tempted to make a big 'x' with her arms, yet wants to jump in to say something.* ...please dont yell at me!!!...

im not saying they aren't doing anything now. i know. i have friends at nasa who aren't getting any sleep because of the new changes and additions. and i give them total kudos for that. but what benji i think is saying (correct me if im wrong, benj) is that they are only changing things once columbia happened. they weren't doing nearly the amount to change things as they are now.

there. that's my two cents. *backs away before people can start yelling...*

please forgive me if i offended anyone...i wouldn't want to do that

Yeah, I read the whole report. My question was about other problems with the craft, not organizational structure.

well if they go with the moon mars and beyond plan the shuttle won't be used for a long time...for right now though..i'm pretty sure that every possible thing is being evaluated and checked checked and checked again just to make sure that it is "flight ready"
