TOP GUN!

Post by tennisrox014 »

I was looking around the barracks and was surprised there was no place to post Top Gun stories, this was ,personally, my favorite part of camp!Although im sure each ACer would have a different answer if asked about their views on top gun im sure we each have our stories/expirences , good or bad, so thought there should be a place to post them! Yay go top gun! :D

like the 2nd time i won there were these two guys who were like gansters or something creepy like that, me and my rio flew against them in the 2nd round and got an engine fire on them after about 2 minutes, the two guys wouldnt admit to everyone else that they got shot down by a girl. The counselor later that day was like telling them they got waxed. it was so funny!

I had a fairly easy time making it to the final rounds since my team was all new and i was the only returning pilot, and my RIO was awsome but we have already discussed that. So i cleaned out everyone on my team with guns kills. I was also there with the team of Aussie girls, they werent that good, and got shot down every time in the final rounds. Then i went up against the guys from Pukin Dogs, and we had a good time. It was the first flight i actually had to really work for. After our first round they told me that i was really lucky, they would have had a guns kill but i reversed my turn (big no-no) at just the right time and managed to save my six. The second round we both went into a tactical egg in opposite directions so we passed at the top and bottom which was kinda amusing. In the end, we assumed they won, which they did, i thought by a large margin. During my second week at ASA, Lurch was runing the pilot track training at AC, he informed everyone that i missed Top Gun by 2 points, and i have been kicking myself ever since. Unfortunately i wont get to go back and try for it again.

Thats SO wierd! I was a pukin' dog and Lurch was my counselor (hes my favorite counselor!) and we flew agaist these two australians in the final and the score was like 35 to 33 or something close like that. And lurch had told me the scores but not who won and i had convinced myself that we had lost. i was so surprised at graduation when my name was called! but yeah really no challenge here either for most of top gun. most people have a tendancy to go into a big giant toilet bowl and arent hard to shoot down! :D

its the same people, they were quite an interesting group of girls, (and one guy) there were 15 girls at AC and one guy who came with them we found that very amusing.

So close, yet so far

Post by Gash »

I just got back from A/C maybe an hour and a half ago and i'm still stoked about it. This is my first post on this site, so hopefully it'll be a good one. My RIO and i were both returning from teaming up together last year, so we made it to the final round of Top Gun pretty easily, even though there were 4 squadrons this week: 5 flights=5 shoot-downs. Final match was Gunslingers vs. Pukin' Dogs and according to the counselors, it was one of the best they'd seen in years.

After the neutral pass, the PD pilot climbed to 20,000ft while i started circling to look for him, and then came down on the opposite side of the circle and we toilet bowled it for about 1 1/2 minutes tryin to get a lock. I only had 1 tally-ho on him, so I was pretty confident I didn't have a shot winning by points so I *stupidly* tried a Split-S and reversed my turn. The PD pilot was able to pull around on my tail and went for a solid lock. Through all this though, it was really close. Low-altitude flying has always been my specialty, so I took the flight all the way down to the deck. I was pulling a 4.5G turn 50ft off the ground. While he was trying to get me, he dropped to 10ft above the ground, but he was able to recover and got a solid gun burst into my tail. It was an epic fight though.

yeah

I'm a pretty good rio...so I usually would team up with an inexperienced guy and teach him how to pilot. One year in top gun...we were in a toilet bowl. and I told the guy to keep turning right. He turned left.

Man...if I was just a pilot I could so win Top Gun.

well i no what you mean about inexperienced pilots and rios but it definateally works the other way to ive seen many rios screw things up for their pilots, we had two amazing pilots on our team last year and the worse one (in my opinion at least) ended up winning jus because the others rio was just sitting back there doing nothing thankfully ive only had a good rio to work with and both times ive lost in top gun it was to the eventual winner so i cant complain that much

in order for a team to work well no matter how good one of the members is they have to work together... a good pilot cant just win top gun without working with her rio, same the other way...

Counselors for Week 39, Mach 3

Post by Gash »

I don't remember most of the counselors, even though it was just like a week ago, but i'll see what i can remember.

Pipes- Gunslingers
Tops & Jinx- Black Lions
Short Round & somebody- Pukin' Dogs
I don't think I learned the names of either Jolly Rogers counselors.

Its not much, but hopefully you know one or two of them.
