Fun things to bring to camp?

Post by Drumrollz »

What about cool / fun things to bring to camp? I know there's not that much free time, but in the rooms, sometimes people bring cool stuff. And it doesn't have to be expensive, either. Last year, I took a nifty little cheap gadget I got that was a suction cup that plugs into a CD player and turns any surface into a speaker. Everyone in the room loved it.

Anyone else have any cool things that they've taken to camp, or that they've seen other kids take?

Yep, a SoundBug. In my first year of ASA, a kid brought a poster of some pop singer scantly clad and hung it on the wall, and threatened death if anyone, er, tainted the poster.

He also brought a flat stereo, about 1 and half inches deep. How he got it though airport security without getting searched, I'll never know.

I really keep on thinking Space Camp would be a great subject for a documentary. Anyone ever heard of a trainee bringing a video camera?

wow..kinda on subject....when i was there there were a group of australians whose shaperones brought video cameras with a little light on it , we were flying missions and there would be like glare coming off the canopy of our simulators.... it was so annoying.... but anyways yeah a documentery would be cool!

I did research last year, i took a phone with me to camp and a telephone jack. Airport security didn't even stop me. The phone jacks, at least the two in my room, do NOT work. However, it being a special session, we might be able to use our leverage to get them to connect them for us.

Ooooh, do you have a wireless card? If you do, we could start our own wireless network and talk to eachother between floors :-D

we could get an ad-hoc (between several computers) wireless network going easy. just need two computers, each with wireless cards, and check the ad-hoc box in the connection settings.

Space Camp used to offer videos of your week at camp. The video captured your team going through the various activities. Then there was a segment on the facilities at Space Camp; a standardised bit of information about the museum or space centre you were nearest to. I never got one of these films, but I did see it as an additional item on the registration form the year after I my last camp adventure.

I got one from my first time. I watched it once. I would love to follow a team around one week and do a documentary, but I wouldn't want it to detract from my experience by worrying about getting all this footage instead of having fun.

last year the boys had a radio, and listened to baseball games @ night. that was cool. walkytalkys are cool too so you can talk to people in other rooms.
bringing a computer would be fun to watch dvd's or something. we tried the phone jack in my room one year and it also did not work, i dont know why theyre even there. bringing cell phones and text messaging eachother would be easier than trying to talk via computer.

I've got an iBook. OS X automatically pics up ad-hoc networks and joins them. Hehe.

So yeah, that would be awesome. I got my laptop used last year after camp, and I haven't gone anywhere without it yet, so I'm debating if I'm taking it to camp or not.

Be sure to bring headphones, too, though, so that you can listen to the other person talking on those instead of through the speaker. If you go to Target, tell me what kind you get, I might get a pair too.
