Space Camp shuttle simulator

I was just looking at the picture page and looking at the pictures of the interior of Columbia. Granted its been 11 years since i used that simulator at camp but i had forgotten just how cheesey it looked compared to Enterprise. Columbia was so bare. The airlonk wasnt even close to fll size. It doesnt have enough lockers up front and if i remember right the flight deck is so simple its unbeleavable. I seem to remember columbias flight deck had 1 computer screen, the standard tv screens for windows , a single key pad and 3 landing gear switches. But i guess thats apropriate for the age group and i sure had a good time 11 years ago as columbias pilot.

Yeah but now space camp has Intrepid so thats a little bit more fun. And when i was there it was brand new and we were talking about it and smiley said that it was completly free range!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How cool is that? He mentiond that he wanted to try to land it on the VAB!!!

Intrepid isnt used by space camp Intrepid is only used by the corporate academy or atleast thats what i've heard. And that being so it would be too advanced for the space camp program.

I heard somewhere that it is used during the summer by kids by I don't know what level or if it is true.

Iy might be used by youth programs in summer i dont know like i said i had read it was just corporate academy that used it. And if thats the case id think it would be too advanced for anything lower than academy.

I heard the same thing...when there aren't any corporate sessions, one of the programs gets to use it (which one, I am not sure).

Probably SA cause ASA doesn't and you guys say it's too advanced for SC so that leaves SA. I'll try and remember to ask when I go in August. Then we will no for sure!!

I remember reading that it was used for corporate academy and may in the future be used for youth programs but it didnt specify which one it was.

i was told by a counseler that Intrepid was used by the "little" kids maybe i took it the wrong way!

joel was strange, but anyway i heard that intrepid was used by youth programs in the summertime but i dont know which one that is.

I'll admit space camps simulator isnt much but it is good for the age group that used it. I know when i went to space camp i thought it was great. Ofcourse i was only in elementary school at the time.

the little kids would propably enjoy almost anything to so with space camp as long as they get to play with it

I'm sure some of those younger kids expected more from the shuttle simulator at camp i know i did. Their not all their just to play. I was their to learn what its like to be an astronaut. But imagine trying to put a 4th grader in enterprise and have them beable to carry out a mission. Its just not going to work. Columia is apropriate to the age group.

If the stuff is not age appropriate the kids won't have fun.

True and i think the camp did a pretty good job of making stuff age apropriate. The camp simulator is verry simple but the missions are only an hour long also so that kind of limits the length of the missions.

well in the '01 brochure under ASA it shows the Intrepid and says "New for summer 2001 Intrepid" or something

It might be used for ASA now i dont know. I just know when it first was built the coorporate program was going to use it.
