Who wants to work in space? Or for NASA?

I was just curious, because it seemed like there were three other girls on my ASA team with identical "dreams" of what they want to do in life...

I plan to be the first person on Mars... I am an avid fan of Bob Zubrin, and his book The Case for Mars... I wrote my major senior term paper in high school about why we should go to Mars, and he was by far my biggest source...

I can't really add, so I don't think you want me being an engineer for NASA. But I would freakin sweep their floors. I wan't to aim a little higher though... haha

There was another girl on my team who had almost the exact same goals as me. It was kinda wierd because mine aren't really that specific.

I didn't vote on this one because my thoughts on the subject are somewhat ambiguous. I'd like to go to space, or work in that field, but I don't think NASA will work for me.

For one thing, I wold not be able to put up with the buerocracy<sp>. It would drive me nuts. Also, I think that commerical spacetravel will blossom shortly and NASA will no longer be as important in launching spacecraft. And, I'm not great at math and wouldn't trust myself with anything beyond basic algebra.

I wouldn't mind owning/operating my own space company, though. I think I could make huge strides in that sort of position.

i have always dreamed of becoming an astronaut. but i think it was more of a little kid dream than something that will become a reality. its kinda weird. looking at colleges and starting to make those plans. im looking at majoring in either aerospace or chemical engineering. while i would love to work for nasa..i would be happy working anywhere with either of those careers.. i dont know. we'll see where the world takes me.
i too have dreamed of being the first person on mars. i wonder just how many people have that dream. and who the lucky one will be.

I don't know if I'd want to go to Mars. I'd like to be the first person to walk on the Moon again, though.

Cool, can I be the second person on Mars? I have read The Case for Mars, my friend Nebula got me addicted. Bob Zubrin is my hero, and he lives in Indian hills, which is literally five minutes from where I am. My best friend is practically his neighbor. And yet I've never met him. Unjust! However, I would be happy to do anything involved in NASA, which is why I voted for that one. Even the Janitor! My first choice, however, is to be a mission specialist or an engineer. Or both. Yeah :P

That's awesome, and that's what I hope to major in (although I have two friends in aerospace, and there are a LOT of issues there). Where are you going to school?

I'm currently at Worcester Polytechnic Institute... The school where not only is it OKAY to be a geek, it's practically a requirement to be admitted.... Which was nice for me, the only true geek in a school of 1000 catholic school girls... Scary, ain't it?

That was the same for me. I went to a catholic school Freshman year, and I was probably the only real geek. Everyone else was the epitome of prepdom. It was sad. Then I moved here, and I have other geeky friends. Except they're all grammar geeks, I'm the only science geek lol. My science geek friends are mostly from either engineering camp this summer or from the space.com forums of DOOM. I want to go to CU for aerospace, not because it is the number one party school in the country, but because it is like the third best aerospace university in the country. Plus I lot of my friends go there. Although being stuck in the middle of Stephen and Tim again may be a pain, so that's another reason why I'm considering UAH. And some other random places.
