Bad Weather

Post by monkeynautt »

It was nice and hot for almost the whole week I was there in August. Then, on the last day it was poring rain. We had to have our picnic in the cafeteria and we wern't able to launch our rockets. The only day it rained was the day we were to spend mostly outside. It sucked!!

Thankfully our last dAY AT ADVANCED ACADEMY WE HAD BEUTIFUL WEATHER ALTHOUGH IT WAS IN THE MID TO UPPER 90'S. They took us to a park somewhere nearby where we had lunch that was after going to Marshall. And we had our graduation outside under Pathfinder. For some reason though that week we didnt do any rocket building or launchinbg like we had done at camp and academy level 1. Most of the week our weather was verry nice but extremely hot we had to sepnd most days inside as much as posible because the heat was at dangerous levels.

Looking at pictures of the picnic I wish we could have gone. It looked like so much fun. Instead we were stuck inside in the bottom of the Hab and in the museum. We had our grad in the Challenger auditorium.

[/i went in april, and it was HOT, well hot for me, i left vermont with 1.5 feet of snow and no power because we had an ice storm the night before, it was like 70's-80's the whole time i was there, and it did rain a lot. awesome storms w/ lotsa thunder. our graduation was in the challenger auditorium too even though it was nice, probably because it was in the spring.
my parents are paranoid though, do hurricanes even get to huntsville? i want to go in late summer or fall but they wont let me.
whats the weather like in the winter?
agh idk when i want to go but i just want to go ya kno?!

When I went in August it was extremly hot. At least for me. I'm from Canada and we have like no humidity so when I walked off the plane I almost died it was so humid. Also our summers never get that hot. I'm use to 20 degrees celsius maybe up to 30 if we're lucky. And I'm also not used to air conditioning. Where I live some people have it and there are getting to be a lot of offices etc. that have it but it's never so hot that you can't stand it. When I was at camp my mom said a hurricane was hitting Flordia and southern Alabama but it never got to Huntsville. It might have caused the rain we had thou. Today it was snowing! It's May and it's snowing. It melts quickly thou. In the middle of April we got 2 feet of snow in 24 hours!!! This is one of our coldest springs on record. I can't wait to get to hot Alabama weather!!!

Thje gulf coast gets huricanes but unless it was a major huricane It would probab;ly be pretty weak by the time it getsto Huntsville whivch is in northern Alabama. I wouldnt worry too much about huricanes Tornadoes on the other hand are another story. Huntsville does get some pretty servere thunderstorms that can spawn tornadoes.

My mom just didn't know where Huntsville was in Alabama so she was worried about me. I phoned here during the week and she told me about the hurricane and I told her were Huntsville was.

Of course, if there is a tornado, you don't have to worry about it...Counselors are told not to notify trainees in the event of a tornado warning!

Joel told us that they put all the campers in a tornado shelter. He said they can round up ever camper and have everyone in there in 30 minutes!

Well considering a tornado can be over in 30 seconds taking 30 minutes to get everyone in a shelter might not be too helpful.

Both times I went, the only sense of "bad weather" we had was heat in the 90s and low 100s. They actually put out a Red Flag on day to say the heat was to great to really be outside for long.

We had several days in 98 when the temps were over 100 and we had to stay inside as much as possible.

The heat is only part of the problem. The humidity in alabama can get realy bad especially if you're not use to it. Luckily or unluckily depending on how you look at it i was from Virginia where the humidity during summer is just as bad as Alabama.

This year we had a really cold winter and spring. Our summers can be very nice thou. The weather really depends on where you live. Besides the terrirories (north of 60 degrees) I think we are one of the coldest parts of Canada.
