The Food

Post by CastAway »

Hmm... everyone knows that one of the semi-weak points of Space Camp is the food. Well, ya gotta improvise.

For one thing, it's about time the pb&j's were easily accessible. Before, you had to ask for them. Now, you can just take them if you want. Uncrustables rule!

But beyond that, if they run out or if it just gets repetitive, ya gotta improvise, and improvise well. One thing I did was to make a cruton salad. I'm still a hater of greens (I really wish I could grow out of that...), so I make a cruton salad with crutons and bacon bits. The sauce I would usually make is just ketchup plus mustard. Or there's Phil's (the counselor) recipe that I neither recommend nor say not to try. I tried it once and everyone was looking at me funny, but it wasn't that bad. I will get back to you with that shortly, but my friend who knows the recipe isn't responding to my IM right now.

But anyways, post what to do about food or just comments about it here.

The recipe, according to my friend who had Phil as a counselor, is 2 mayo, 3 ketchup, 3 sugar, and 5 pepper. This is by packets that are in the cafeteria.

okay I have seen the creation of this sauce thing. It is really nasty when it is getting made, but I dont know about afterwards and how it tastes. I just eat the same thing everyday.

It doesn't taste that bad, but the fact that everyone looks at you funny when you're making it means that you just don't want to make it in public.

I have to laugh when you guys complain about how bad the food is now.If you have never experianced the old cafeteria then ypu have no room to talk about bad food at space camp. Back when i went my first 3 times the food was barely edible most days and the worse part was you were given no selection hardly atall. One main food item and a few other side dishes. Anything with cheese on it was like trying to eat rubber. Meat was ussualy burned beyond recognition and i swear one day at academy one girly on my team found bits of metal in her macaroni and cheese.

Uhh... If by the old cafeteria, you mean before the remodeling when there were big mission patches posted on the walls, I got one year of that. I seem to remember having to resort to using bread and jelly (which they used to have openly available!) most of the days. However, I seem to remember a better breakfast (with the exception of the eggs, which never have or will be good do to rehydration) because of a variety of hash browns. I think I may also remember one day of bacon, but I'm not sure. PLEASE GIVE US BACON, DANGIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish someone could hear me now, but I doubt they come to this site despite its awesomeness.

Okay I think I speak on behalf of many people when I say that I am afraid to touch the eggs. I have to give it to the space camp food people though, the hash browns are quite tasty.

Yep that was the cafeteria i was talking about. I guess you obviously went to some camp program before 1998. The food they serve now is a definate improvement but not by much.

I do believe that the eggs are radioactive. Brent seems to like them. We all gave him ours last time I was there, so he didn't have to pay for it.

I always remember the eggs being runny. I never liked them either but the hashbrowns were good.

The eggs weren't that horrible but I only ate them once or twice because they were sometimes runny.

No no the eggs are bad. I ate them once when I was little and I won't eat them again. I am kinda afraid of them. Oh and for monkeynautt, Happy Canada Day!

What bakery stuff at AC?

As for me, my breakfast is always hash browns (can't call 'em tater tots when it's breakfast...) and a sausage biscuit (works surprisingly well as a sandwich). IF ONLY THEY HAD BACON!!!

And, yes, I, too, remember some runny eggs at one point.

Well what i was referring to was in the old cafeteria. In the old cafeteria if you went around the corner over by where the serving line use to end over around where the entrance to the serving area is now they use to have a continental breakfast available ion the mornings. Donits, bagels, fruit muffins stuff like that. The week i was there noone went over there there was never a line and the food was good, When i went in 98 though it was gone after they remodeled the cafeteria. But someone said they had a bakery section if inow if you pay for the stuff.

There is the Blast Off bakery if that is what you are talking about. I pay for food there because it is REALLY good.
