Our messed up schedule

Our messed up schedule
While I was in AC our team's schedule was so messed up our survival training consisted of a lecture. No fire making, nothing. The only thing I
remember is the survival acronym:
S- Size up the situation
U- Undue haste makes waste
R- Remember where you are
V- Value living
I- Improvise
V- Vanquish fear and panic
A- Act like the native
L- Learn basic skills

When i was their in 96 we got a good survival training. We got shelter building, fire building, food procurement as well as water survival training. We got the lectures but we also got to do hands on stuff it was actually one of the more fun parts of the program.

At ASA we were suppose to go to the IMAX at 10:30 but teh show was scheduled for 11 so our lucnch got shorted. Luckily team time was scheduled for after lunch so the rest of the day didn't get messed up!!

My counselors never gave me any trouble when I asked to see the schedule.orion8 wrote:i wish the counselors would let us see the schedule
I think the key is, ask once and remember it...if you keep asking (like I did on an occasion or two when my short term memory kept failing me), they tend to get a little annoyed.
The counselors are always nice just be sure not to expect stuff to happen right on schedule. They never do especially at AC. At ac were always ahead of schedule so we got alot of free time.

Unless your counselor makes you play stupid card games when you could be doing other stuff like going to the gift shop or going to the museum. Every time we had free time at ASA our day counselor had us playing some stupid card game.

I just hated that i paid 900 dollars for ASA and then spent so much time playing cards which i could have done for free.

Everyday has team time thou, so doing something non space related is unavoidable.

Team time is one thing but when you're supose to be visiting the museum or riding space shot or something like that and you play cards thats just not right in my opinion.

Jeremy, my counsellor, actually photocopied our schedule and gave it out to us every day. We were really good at keeping time on task. Then again, that was ASA and not AC. Maybe if everyone knows the schedule, then everyone can help everyone else stay with it! The only variance we had was that one of our astronomy nights was cancelled due to clouded skies. Instead, we did something in the museum.

You are comparing apples to oranges. I have worked both and they are very different. Space Camp holds to the schedule much more tightly than AC. If the weather is bad AC moves things or cancels things. If that happens and we have already told you what we are gonna do then there is a lot of whining no matter what age you are. It is how it has to be...not because we are mean....well not only because we are mean. lol
