I was going to go that week but it was too close to exams. I write my last exam on Wednesday and I'm flying out of Calgary so I would have to leave Thursday. I arrive on the fourth so if you're staying the extra night I might see you!

I don't think I'm going to be staying the extra night because I have a family reunion in Ohio the next day. My parents will probably be picking me up and then we'll drive through the night.

I got a letter in the mail last Friday. Did you apply for the commuter or residential component? I applied for the residential. If you applied for the commuter it may take longer since different sites had different deadlines.

that might be why... i applied for communter with goddard spaceflight center... where did you hope to end up?

I honestly don't know, it just depended on where my skills best fit. With the residential, they place you at one of eight or nine universities currently doing research for NASA.

Well personally if i was applyinf for that program i'd want to work at one of the actual NASA center but then i'm lucky enough to live 15 minutes away from one.

SHARP stands for Summer High School Apprenticeship Research Program. Basically you spend a summer assisting with research. If you live within a 50 mile radius of a NASA center you can apply for the commuter component and commute on a daily basis. If you don't (like me) you can apply for the residential component and live on campus at one of 13 universities for 8 weeks. Preference is given to groups of people who are underrepresented in science, engineering, mathematics, technology, and geography. For more info go to
www.nasasharp.com.

Sharp - a program for students to conduct research or workstudy experiences with mentors in their field either at a nearby nasa instillation or participating college labratory (communter---drive to and from) or where they find the instillation best for you and fly you there for free but for the entire summer... (residential)

Actually, the residentual half is more than just working in a lab. You attend a lecture series at the college and take math classes. You go on 'enriching' field trips on the weekend. You also take a computer class and make a webpage at the end of you time at the program. There is also a video confrence with all the other SHARP students at the different universities.
