I like to point out that at the end of the month is Holocaust remembrance day. I think that all of us should at least take 5 min to remeber those who where lost. Plus ware a paperclip which the Norwegians used to symbloize prohection for people of Jewish decent. Most of us know that Von Bruan worked for the Nazis but he later changed side with the United State and two men where able to walk on the moon. I have not found any evdencve of Dr. Von Bruan knew about the Final Solution. We should still know that more than just even in a group filled hate one person can stand out. A London news repoter once asked Dr. Von Bruan if the Staurn V would turn towards Britan. Dr. Von Braun walked out of the press room. Plus people have tired to say that the Thrid Reich is in America and had Judith Resnik and Ilam Ramon Killed. We know that NASA in spots has blood of innocent people on various things.

Well your most likely right that Vonbraun didnt have knowledge of everything that went on keep in mind he had alot of Jewish slave labor an penumunda building the V-2 and he was a major in the SS. I don't know how much he knew or how much he really believed in the nazi party but i'm sure he wasnt completely ignorant of what was happening either. And also keep in mind the main reason he went to the americans instead of russia was he wanted to avoid torture and atleast beable to continue his work as he wanted. Don't get me wrong Vonbraun was a brilliant man and a great engineer but i don't think he was completely innocent either. If i remember right one member of his team was even deported and stripped of his citizenship when it was learned how the slave labor under his command at penamunda was treated, starved, and even tortured.

I agree with you, Jason about VonBraun. I did a history project on the slave labor used to build the V-2 rockets. I don't think he was completely innocent. I read a lot of primary source documents about people working in mines and suffocating to death building these things. I would be very suprised if VonBraun knew nothing about this.

You're right about that. It's very hard to believe that he had no idea what was going on while he was building the V-2.

Acutally in one of the primary source documents I read, it said that he did come through the underground places where they were assembling the rockets. The guy telling his story said that vonBraun came by to see how things were going and he didn't recognize him but the other guy said that that was the smartest man who ever lived or something. So yes, I am sure he knew what was going on considering he went down into the dusty assembly places to check out what was going on.

Well i'm fairly sure he knew what went on. Hes lucky because if we didnt need his work so badly i wouldnt be suprised if he would have been tried for war crimes.

I've never really thought about any of this before but it is so true. I know he would not want to talk about it, but it makes me wonder if Von T knew anything about it.

The other thing toi think aboiut though is that if they didnt do what they did hitler probably would have killed them and used others to contiunue the work using his plans and designs.

That is very true. Although Von Braun was arrested once by the SS.

He was? I didn't know that. The guy I read about was arrested for doing some holocaust resistance stuff and thats what got him building those V-2 thingies in the first place. Why did he get arrested?

I didnt know he was arrested by the SS but i know at some point he held the rank of Major in the SS.

He was arrested for spending to much time dreaming of going to the moon and not spending enough time working on government projects.

A general of the SS had arrested Von Bruan becuase he thought that Von was only using the Nazi Rocket project for space reasons. But we also know that Hitler let Von Bruan out becuase they needed help for taking Birtian for which it was Hitler's fault altoughter. I think Von Braun know about the mistreatment but I think he didn't know about the Final Solution. Rember in Schilder's List the main foucs was a guy who helped the people being mistearted by the Nazi. In the movie we find out life working in factory was better than starving to death a contecion camp. We also have to rember that Von Braun onced walked out of a interview on the Saturn V when a reporter asked if it would had toward Britan. So he must have taken his past regertly. Plus if Von did speak like many had done he would end up dead. Which means no moon landing.

Well i don't know how bad the conditions were at penamunda for the slave labor but it was still essentially a labor camp for the people working here. And people did often starve or die from the bad working conditions.

People starved and died and stuff also because some of the work was going on underground and there was a lot of dust. What one guy did to the V-2 rockets was he sabotaged the pendulum that would guide it in such a way that you wouldnt know you ahd a problem until you already launched it.
