I was told a few years ago that they had recently (at the time) slowed it down and that now, it wasn't nearly as much fun as it had used to be...

That's funny because when I was at camp in October we went to the lake. We had to get permission to go because the water was below whatever temperature they normally let people into it. (I think they said it was 73 degrees F.) They were afraid we were going to get hypothermia on them, but we were stong and made it out with huge grins on our faces! We did the helodunker and the parachute zip like - heaps fun!

the zip line and helo dunker are great. Except when the medical problem the counselor assigns you in the helodunker is Ghonorea but my counselors had a sick sense of humor.

I was assigned a broken nail, and being me, that's quite the contrary to something I'd ever complain about, but I played it up big time and created a huge fuss over it all. In addition, our counsellor had the two Australians and I team up as terrorists who wouldn't let anyone leave the helicopter. Oh... memories...

Two of my favorites were when the biggest person on the team was assigned to be a sumo wrestler who wanted to be the last off, so he was actually picking up people and pushing them out of the window. The other amusing scenario is when one of the guys have to act like a pregnant woman. It usually ends up with some comment about water breaking as water flows into the helidunker.

One year they had an emergency raft from a large crew aircraft in the lake, and they made us get out of the helidunker, swim to the raft, get in, while maintaining our roles, then use the penetrator for extraction. Im glad they stopped using the penetrator cause that was simply a painful experience.

That was a horrible experience for everybody! Guys and girls had serious problems with that piece of equipment. It was even more painful than my fall off of the net and my entanglement in a downed tree and barbwire.

We elected not to do the helo hoist activity or penetrator as you call it for that reason. The harness was uncomfortable enough to walk in we didnt want to get hoisted up by it.

The device is actually called a Forest Penetrator, but not for the same reason we call it that. it was actually designed so be dropped down into a forested area without getting snagged, but was really designed for only one person at a time, so the ride up wasnt as uncomfortable as the ride at the lake.

Sorry about the double post, computer glitch.

The time at the tower doing the helo dunker and the zipline were definately one of the most fun parts of AC. I wish we could have done the zipline twice but we couldnt it took forever to wait for your turn though.

I also liked the zipline and helo dunker- in fact it prepped me for the Ropes Course in Basic Training. If I survived the zipline, then the Ropes Course was a piece of cake. I was not too afraid up on the ropes and made it through alright.
