I think 2015 just a guess but hey you never know. I think we are advancing pretty fast but not that fast. Plus there are a lot of hurdles to getting to mars!!

I'd love it if you were right about going to mars in 2015 but i think thats extremely optomistic in my opinion. The current climate at NASA makes me thin it will be much later. Right now NASA isnt even working on really lanning mars missione let alone developing the space craft and equipment to do it. I heard a NASA Langley Research Center engineer speak on the subject recently and he pointed out that right now all of NASA'a Mars work is concentrating on unmanned probes for the near future. Although i have to admit some of the new probes are verry impressive and will make pathfinder look like something from the stone age in many ways. So if nothing else we can look forward to newer and better unmanned probesclimaxing in a probe that will hopefully return samples of mars back to Earth.

I've heard estimates that around 2019 we should have humans walking on Mars.

You might be right about that one i was trying to think fast and when i think about time it always seems to take a long time for years to pass so it seemed normal to me.lol of course it was pretty late when i said that!!

Perhaps, but I seem to recall back in the 80's sometime, George Bush (the first one) made a directive to get humans to Mars by 2010 (I think that's the date he set...it was so long ago!) or something...we're certainly not going to hit that because, while I think everyone wants to go to Mars, no one really wants to pay for it.

...sometimes I think another Cold War would be a good thing (by comparison, it sure beats a real war!). We could race someone to Mars, and increase our level of technology at the same time!

A cold war might push NASA to get to Mars. I want to see someone walk on Mars or the Moon soon. I wish I was alive during Apollo. To me it's a big deal and my parent's don't even about the moon missions

A good point about the moon...there's a great many number of things we could do with the moon, scientifically.

We never should have stopped going. We should've just been running missions back and forth all of these years, working towards a lunar outpost. But instead we just stopped going. How dumb are we?!

It's all politics. They should look at the scientific advantages of going back. It'd be worth the cost in the end.

It'd be well worth the cost of putting me on Mars or back on the Moon. The problem is the pay-off wouldn't be immediate.

Thus, in a society of instant-gratification, no one's going to go for it, at least not at the moment.

I just wish people could look past the short term things. A moon or Mars mission would be awesome!!

Yes, you're right... it's all politics. We need someone to say "we're going to Mars" and then back it up. I have been dissapointed in Bush as far as the Space program (like cutting the x34) but i know after sep11 he is not really worried bout that!
