Before the Hab
I was reading some of the previous posts and thought I might be able to help clear something up. When I was at camp last summer they told us that the kids used to sleep where the space camp cafeteria is now. My guess is they used that and the area below it.

Ok thats what i though because it seemed like thats where they were in the movie. I think ive actually seen the door they went in and out of in the movie when going to the sleeping area.

Yeah i think your right about that we had a whole debate about this once in the movie post think not that we got anywhere but there were lots of thoughts on where they slept brought up. But since max runs into the museum after kevin yells at him i imagine it would have to be where the cafeteria is. This is one spot where smileys expertise would definitly be usefull hint hint nudge nudge lol

The really old promotional video i have which comes from around the time of the movie makes it appear that they are incside a building with construction similar to what you see throughout the museum atleast when you look at the walls and other details so i would think your right about that.

Sims
I watched the movie and was lost where things where. Like the training floor used to have individual rooms, and where the simulator the ones they had in the 80's? Plus if you look at the ceiling it looks kind of like the Astro-Trek Dome. Also I only really know on part of actual museum that was used was the part where they display traveling exhibits and A4/V2 rocket. Over all I liked the film besides some of the minor problems. If they do come out with a 20th anniversary edition some of the things they could have is audio commentary, cast and crew interview and biographical info., deleted scenes, Space Camp history, web-links, documentary film on what real Space Camp is like, past and present maps, interactive menus using Jinx, behind the scenes, and where are they know.

There is a reason the training center in the movie looks so diffrent and i didnt know the reason until recently. The training center in the movie was the original one the current one didnt open till 87 or 88 after the movie was filmed. As far as roof of that training center looking like that of the astrotrek building i'm not sure it isnt. The exterior shots of the astrotrek building ive seen klook like a repainted version of the enclosure of the original training center. As far as recognising parts of the museum when i was there i recognised atleast 2. One was the LEM duisplay although i'm not sure its still there it was last time i was in 98 and looked about the same as in the movie. The other thing i recognised was the suit room where max goes when he fixes jinx and gets mad. Its gone now but i know it was there through atleast 93 and probably longer because i remember seeing it. I know it wasnt there anymore in 98 but i'm not sure about 96.

Well i know the astro trek building is new but it is very similar to the dome that use to house the original training center. They may have just had a similar structure built or used the original i don't know.

Maybe I can help clear up where some of the locations were in the movie SpaceCamp.
Back in the day (I went to Space Camp Level 1 in 1985, shortly before the movie was filmed), There was no Hab I. Things were quite a bit different then, as you can imagine, so bear with me.
What we now know as Hab II (where sickbay, etc, is) was only as tall as ground level -- the bays were all underground (and some still are, along with sickbay), and the top of the building was a large concrete slab. Back then, the bays were known by "color" names, like "orange", and the teams for Level I were known by planetary names (I was on the "Sun" team, and had a ridiculous orange visor).
Atop that slab sat a large temporary "bubble" structure, originally used for the USA Pavilion at the 1982 World's Fair in Knoxville, TN. Inside the bubble were all the classrooms and simulators. In the movie's simulator scenes, you can see the supports holding up the bubble, all painted black (to simulate space). So the Training Center Floor as we know it hadn't been built yet, and the sims had to sit somewhere!
The bubble was removed when Habs I and II were built -- and in case you're curious, that same super-old "temporary" bubble is now used at Aviation Challenge. I can't believe the thing is still standing, because I remember being in that building during the World's Fair in 1982.
As far as the "habitat" in the movie, it was filmed in the dining facility known at the time as "The Lunch Pad." That building's not really in its present incarnation today -- but a key feature was a big rotating bar where you could pick up salads and jello and stuff.
For the movie, they just closed down the dining hall, cleaned out the furniture, and stuck bunks and lockers in for filming. Not very poetic, but there you go. It worked for the movie.

The names for the bays in Hab II were still known by colors in 1989. I completely remember them by Orange Bay, Blue Bay, Yellow Bay, etc... While Teams for Level I (like Camp) were Corporate Sponsors plus the names of planets (and probably the "Sun" still existed too). When I went to Academy I in 1991, the names of the bay's changed from colors to the names of stars and/or constellations.Joker wrote:with sickbay), and the top of the building was a large concrete slab. Just for FYI sake. Not real important. Heh.

Ok well part of Hab 2 exisrted anyway i guess. When was the hab 2 as we know it built? I ssume from the picture i mentioned above that hab 1 was built before the upperstructure of Hab 2 was built. i knew that bubble was used as the training center at one time just never realsed the slepbays were actually below it at the time. Also i beleve that in 1991 there was still something at the space and rocket center called the Lunch Pad but it seeed to me the signs for it were outside.

I didn't realize that either. So the whole top part of Hab II wasn't built until years later?

Since the training center as we know it opened in 1988, I can assume that since the training center floor of the past was build up as Hab II between 1988-1989. The Hab2 upper section was brand new when I went to Camp in 1989. Of course, so was Hab1. =)

Ok that definatelyt helps narrow it down. And by the name and the picturte in that old brochure on your website richasi i assume hab 1 must have been built first. All this helps explain why the bottom of hab 2 looks older inside than the top. By the way when are you going to update your site again??? hint hint

There used to be a website of a girl who stayed in a hotel at camp in Alabama because the girls dorms weren't finished yet. I don't know what year that was though and the website isn't there anymore.
