Well actually anyone who orders a new flight suit will get the dark blue ones now. As far as i know though if you use one issued to you at ASA which most people do they are still the light blue ones. I've seen the new suit i know someone who has one and they are fine for the girls but they don't have the double zipper like the old one did which presents some problems for guys when needing to use the restroom.

Actiually they do sell a dark blue astronaut style flight jacket with space camp and shuttle patches for i believe its 90 dollars. Which is cheaper than ive seen it at some places online. I would like to see them bring back the astronaut style shorts they use to sell with the space camp patch and nasa patch on one side and velcro on the other. They use to sell them when i went in 91 and 93 but i didnt buy them for some reason. The counselors use to wear them and a few lucky campers got them in their clothing packges my clothing package didnt have that type. The counselors ussualy wore their flight suit name tags on the shorts in the velcro area. I'd love to get a pair but havent seen them in years.

A counselor told me once how glad everyone was when they stopped having to wear those, as they weren't very comfortable and were quite hot to wear during the hot Alabama summers...

I acutally have a pair of shorts that are close to those. The one year I went they sold shorts of the same color and style only instead of the velcro they put in "US SPACE CAMP" in some kind of font. The shorts are pretty thin and are rather loose (or were when I bought them, hehe) and if I recall were quite cool in the Alabama heat

As far as the jacket goes it appears to be the same one they sell on space.com and other online space stores but with the space camp patch on it now so it might be the same one. I know the shorts your talking about also Richasi i had a pair i got at Academy in 93. They were thinner and not as good of quality as the ones i was talking about. Plus the ones i was talking about also had the NASA patch on it the thinner ones didn't.
Patch Placement

Where do you add new patches on your flight suit? I have the 20th Anniversary patch that I'd like to add, but there doesn't seem to be any room. I don't want to put it on the back...that reminds me too much of those vests we wore in Girl Scouts that you covered with patches. Also having a problem with my wings...I have 3 now, and before last fall was wearing them on my lanyard, but that won't work for 3. ::sigh:: Plus, I have started printing out a copy of my team patch from the previous year and wearing it on the other side of my ID card. Would like to figure out a way to keep copies of 2001 and 2002 patches and display both this coming year. Last year, all I had to do was flip my badge over to show our "Sept. 11" patch when I was asked about it. Oh the perils of attending Camp multiple times!

How does a "veteran" show off?

*gasp* you.. you WEAR yours?

Oh man. The instant I got mine I put it up to keep it safe. Ooooh... precious stuff that is

I have both my wings framed around a Space Camp patch hanging on my wall. Above that is another frame that consists of a poster of the Atlantis launching with my team picture and certificate for both sessions on either side plus my name badges and session patches (ie, Camp or Academy).
Wow, I couldn't bear to have any of that worn. I'd go nuts if I'd loose any of it or it got damaged

Well as far as patches go i never added any to my flight suit. Not that it matters anyway the only flight suit i have is too small. As for the wings i use to put 2 pairs on my flight suit name tag one on top of the gold embossed wings and the other just underneath my name tag. Then i got a third set and put it directly on the flight suit just under the leaher name tag. When i got a 4th pair i gave up putting them on a flight suit and put them all on a NASA hat i'd bouth when iwas at space academy in 1993. I have al my NASA and aviation pins on their incuding my 4sets of spacecamp wings, a NASA vector pin that NASA sent me for working at one of their visitor centers, a NASA mission commander pin i found at the VASC gift shop, a silver shuttle pin i bought at space academy in 93, and a pair of air force astronaut wings a friend bought for me. As for my mission patches i have them displayed on the wall in my bedroom.

Sept. 11 Patch

Ricky, don't worry. It's not the actual patch print out given to us. I scanned it and printed it out on photo paper scaled to the size of the badge. So, my name tag is on one side of the plastic pouch and the patch on the other.
And for those who are curious, I attended ASA over Sept. 11, 2001, so my team patch reflects that. It's in the shape of a black mourning ribbon, with a map of Alabama, and the shuttle is leaving Huntsville and flying out of the ribbon. The date of our graduation and 14 stars (for each of us) are around the ribbon in gold, with 9-11 in very light gold on one end. I don't know if I can post pics here, or I'd put it up.
The counselors who were there remember our patch and often asked me to show it last year as a good example of the patch having meaning for your team.

Now one thing i forgot as far as flight suits go when i made my post above is when i went to AC i bought several aviation patches including the team/squadron patch hoping i could get me a flight jacket or flight suit to add them too. A few years later i bought a brand new real flight suit at a gun show to put them on. Hopefully ill get the time to sew them on at some point.

Oh i just thought of a cheaper alternative to the space camp flight suit. Their are several companies that sell fairly inexpensive flight suts in varrying colors including the royal blue ones. I've seen them for around 30 dollars or so with no patches. You could get one of those buy the apropriate NASA patches and put them on yourself and it would probably look better and look the way you want and that way you can out any patches you want on it.

Actually you dont even have to pay the 300. You can find nomex flight suits for around 130-170 dollars. I'm trying to avoid spending a small fortune on the flight suit though.
