G.O.A.T.s

Post by Boomerang »

Anyone who went to AC might remember GOATS the small camoulflage vehicles they used to transport around small groups of trainees at AC. Well i use to think It was just something AC had put together and made look military until today. I was going down Interstate-64 here in VA Near the Norfolk Naval Base and i could have sworn i saw what looked like the cab of a GOAT beinbg towed behind a military truck.

They dont use the G.O.A.Ts any more Beebo told us about transporting campers in them but said that they didnt or couldnt do that any more but i cant remember why. I think its probably a safety issue. Now they use the standard USSRC busses. And if i may say so those drivers are really good you should have seen some of the tight spaces they had to manuver in.

Well i didn't know they didnt use them anymore. And even when i was there we used the busses mainly we only used Goats the first night when i arrived early and we only were going anywhere in small groups they also used rthem the next day to go over to turn in any medication we had and to go pick up clothing packages and flight suits if we'd preordered them.

Yeah they are odd looking. I kind of liked them though gave you more of a military feel than the space camp busses and you got the breeze as you were going down the road.

I agree those drivers of the USSRC buses are good. The buses are huge and somehow they manage to fit into tiny little spaces and get us where we need to go.

I especially like the buses that have art and decoration or whatever all over them instead of just U.S. Space and Rocket Center written along the side. Not sure how to describe it, but some of you have to know what I am talking about.

All the GOATs are now dead.. :( sorry to say. For tranportation we now use our buses, many of them with those murals "laminated" on them. Plus the GOATs would not hold all the trainiees we have today, about 300 this week.

We also have a mini van with a F22 painted on it for med runs and small loads to capture the flag and E&E.

Well when i was there they never took everyone in goats just when transporting small groups of trainees. And we didnt get a ride to where our E and E started we walked there then did the course.

OOOH! I remember the GOATS! I'd wondered what happened to them!!! My dad asked about them when he came to pick me up.

I've never ridden in a GOAT, but I'm pretty sure (after Who mentioned it was next to the F-14) that I've seen it (I must have... I've only been to AC four times...)
