Hey everyone. Just wanted to let everyone know that things are starting to shape up. The tech and building crew is currently working on installing a new type of EVA based on an old idea for the Freedom station module. Everything on the TCF as been painted and looks great!

If I get a chance I will snap a few pics and pass them along. Also word on the street is that the Blue Angels will be in town in March for an airshow. More info at www.flyhuntsville.com - I hope they do a flyby of the center and AC!

I dont know what the exact date of completion is but if i remember right its supose to take 3 years so i guess sometime in 2005 or 2006.

i think each phase is a year..and some of phase one is done. so i guess theyll finish that this year, phase two next year, then phase three the year after that so yeah, probably 2005 for the whole thing.

How do you get to Enterprise?

:?: Maybe one of the coulser could answer this. If you look at the layout closey it seems like you would have to go thourgg one of the Deep Space Adventures or go around by the Space Camp dinning area, turn right at the UAT, than go thourgh the gate.

Well from what u understand i dont think the gate that your referring to will be there in its curent form. From what i've read unless you are on an eVA you wont even go onto the actual floor of the training center because you will be enclosed in either the space station, mocr, or one of the shuttles, or one of the connecting tubes. So it sounds to me like when you enter the training center once its done you will imediately be inside one of those enclosures. Only the mission specialist doing EVA's would actually be on the floor itself.

I understand a little bit but where would you enter to get into the tube system. Plus what are the white rooms for are they where you enter, that is what they are for at KSC.
I just want to know where you read about the tube system.

Well i'm guessing there will be one or more doors that will let you into the complex itself somewhere arounfd the training center. I don't know what the white rooms are for exactly you might be right they might be for entering and exiting when evas require someone to leave the cockpits other than enterprise and go on the floor for an eva. The original article about the renovations is where i read that campers will never leave the station/shuttle mocr complex except for the EVA's they want to make it a more realistic enviroment for everyone so the training center will be completely enclosed and will have lights that go up and down every 45 minutes just like in space.

Just as you said

After posting I went to the space campsite and re-read the article closer. I think that you enter from doors like where the gate is now by the UAT to get to the Enterprise and the Intrepid white rooms, Enterprise mission control and the Deep Space Adv. is entered through doors by the gate where the hangar door is located. To get to Atlantis I remember that the floor that it's Mission was located the same level as the ramp plus Atlantis had a platform at the same height, and to get to various parts of the ISS you must enter the Habitation lab or the catwalk over Kibo.

Well that makes senseto me and the diagram looks like that will probably be right. I would think that gates will definately be replaced by doors so that the center will be completely enclosed and no outside light would come in except when the doors open and close.

I used the gate just as a reference point

I can barely believe all that has happened since I left at the end of last summer. When we saw these plans, we thought it was all a fable and would never come true. We were told that the plans had been proposed for years. Now to see all that is changing... it's just so exciting and motivating! Space Camp is alive again! Keep up the good work! I can't wait to come back and learn all the new stuff from Phase 1! (Intrepid has a station now!)

I remember when i visited a few months after my last trip in 98 and the currator of the space and rocket center showed us alot of the plans they had for extensive renovations of the museum and space camp however and unfortunately alot of them were put aside when they hit hard times financialy.
