Space Camp California reopening?

Post by Boomerang »

Well someone just posted this on an AOL space camps message board its quite lengthy but you'll find the text below. It appears that someone has gotten the rights to reopen space camp california but in a new location. The story could be totaly false but it had so much detail if someone is lying they put alot of time into it.

Space Camp at the Queen Mary:

For the past three months I have been coordinating the efforts of a
professional team to acquire the exclusive rights to build and operate Space
Camps in California.  The President of Space Camp has signed a “Letter Of
Intent” to give us the license.

We are buying and moving the Space Camp from the NASA Ames site to the
Queen Mary site in Long Beach.   We have just completed a Seed Capital
investment package to quickly raise $330k which will enable a law firm to
develop and place a $5 million PPM which will fully finance the first Camp.

Would you like to sign up as one of our Fund Finders?  We will pay a
commission of 10%.   We do all the meetings, closing, and paperwork. We have
12 $25k Units for sale for the seed capital, each acquiring a 1% equity
ownership of the new Space Camp company and 3 “Start-Up” sales Units each
for $10k each acquiring a 1% equity ownership.

In addition to individuals, we are also looking for companies who will invest
so they work on the venture.

Meetings/Presentations:

NOTE: Investor and Fund Finders meetings/presentations will be held on the
Queen Mary including a tour of our Camp site area on the following Saturdays
between 10:00 a.m. and Noon.  Please request details and RSVP.  The meetings
will be in the Aquitania Room next to the hotel reservations area on the
third level of the ship.  We will take a 10 walk out to the site are where we
will build the Camp building.  The dress is casual.

December 7
December 14
January 11
January 18

Special meetings/presentations can be set-up at anytime.

Executive Summary

Space Camp Southern California, Inc. (SCSC) was formed to acquire the
exclusive license to build and operate Space Camps in Southern California.
We have received a signed letter of intent from the president of Space Camp,
Huntsville who will grant us the license to provide the license.

We plan to move the Space Camp from near San Francisco to the Queen Mary
site in Long Beach.  The two senior officers who ran that camp will move to
Long Beach and run our camp and participate in establishing other camps.

This move provides us with a much larger site for long term expansion,
access to over 1.6 million annual tourists who already visit the site, and
direct support from the aerospace industry centered within 30 miles of the
site.  There are currently almost 100 reservations for Space Camp in
California in 2003.  Huntsville will conduct a nationwide marketing and
reservation effort to fill our Space Camp.

12,000,000+ people live within 60 miles from our site.

We will finance the Space Camp - Queen Mary venture with a $5,000,000
Private Placement Memorandum (PPM) to be placed by a well-known mid sized
broker.

SCSC has received a letter of interest from the Queen Mary operating company
to build the first camp on two acres of land at their Long Beach site and to
use the Queen Mary hotel for the campers’ rooms and provide all food service.

The Space Camp Brand:

The Space Camp brand is recognized and respected around the world.  Since
opening in 1982, almost 400,000 campers, including 45,000 from California,
have graduated from its wide variety of programs.  The campers, ranging in
age from 9 to 18, spend five days and six nights training to be astronauts,
conducting simulated space missions inside full scale mock-ups of the Space
Shuttle and International Space Station.  They learn about the science of
space travel and team work.

The typical cost including room and board is $900.

NASA has been directly involved with Space Camp since its inception,
providing educational materials, equipment, and expertise from active and
retired professionals.  Past and current corporate sponsors have donated
millions of dollars to other Space Camps.  Some include:

    The Boeing Corporation                Coca Cola
    Lockheed Martin Corporation             Apple Computer
    Eastern Air Lines                     Master Card
    IBM                            and many more

Space Place Day Tourist:

Our summer Space Camp will operate for four months with an additional month
(January) closed for maintenance and simulator updating.   We will operate a
day tourist program during the remaining seven months called “Space Place”
which will equal or surpass our summer camp revenues.

Surprisingly, there is no popular space place in California though we
lead the nation in aerospace companies and have directly participated in all
of America’s space programs.

Utilizing our 16,000 sq. ft. camp facility and our outdoor areas, we will
establish a fun, exciting, and educational 2-3 hour experience for day
tourists already visiting the Queen Mary site and draw space and future
interested tourists to the site.  We expect 200,000 tourists in our first
year of full operation.
Our interactive Space Place will introduce exciting concepts such as real
space tourism, colonization of the Moon and Mars and space sports.

We will originate and sell a wide range of unique products and media and
host a wide variety of special events in concert with real space
accomplishments.

This day visit program will attract the interest and support of major
aerospace and high tech companies as major corporate sponsors who will also
co-market our programs.

Our Space Camp Company:

The founders of SCSC have worked together for 20 years on a wide variety
of space/future themed entertainment development projects.   Our backgrounds
include:

    Investment and commercial banking
Design and development of space-themed theme parks, attractions, and
exhibits
Award winning design work for NASA projects
    Establishing and operating Space Camps
Producing space fairs, award shows, and multi-media

We have a huge network in the aerospace, creative, entertainment,
finance, and technical communities in California.

Seed Capital Investment Plan:

SCSC is in the process of raising $330,000 in seed money which will acquire a
15% equity ownership of SCSC and considered as co-founders.  The funds will
be used to operate the company, and place a $5,000,000 PPM which will fully
finance the first Space Camp.

A 1% Unit of SCSC stock will equal a 1% ownership of the company.  At
incorporation, a 1% Unit will equal 1,000 shares of common stock.  A 1% Unit
of seed money costs $25,000.  There are only 12 seed capital Units.  We have
3 special start-up Units at $10,000 each with each acquiring a 1% equity
ownership of SCSC.

The seed capital will be fully paid back to the investors from money
raised in the PPM at the $2,000,000 level with the investor keeping their
stock.

I don't claim to know anything about, well, anything, but I would think approval would have to come from the US Space Camp Foundation, and not from the President (CEO?!)

I dunno...

You make a good point Vincent but then i dont know what the status of the US Space Camp Foundation is since both of the camps it ran shut down. And i would think someone probably owns the rights to the name.If might be totaly false but if so someone sure put alot of thought into a bad joke. But thats why i put the question mark in the title.

I figure that col bryson does not have the authority to make that kind of commitment without the backing of the space science exhibit. I would have heard something by now if that was really the case. the last I heard was there was a group looking to partner with Huntsville to re-open SC Florida. I was under the impression that cali was seen as a lost cause. I will research this and get back to you guys... I am going back to huntsville on the 27th to take a team for christmas camp. YAY!!!
