I understand that some people apply just to get the rejection letter.

You don't? I say drop the application anyway!SpaceCanada wrote:I wish I qualified.
I was going to apply for NASA's last astronaut class but didn't when I found my eyesight probably wouldn't allow it and the kidney stone I'd had in the Army for sure disqualified me right there. But looking back, I wish I'd dropped the application anyway, just to say I'd done so.
If you got accepted, you'd be the cutest astronaut Canada ever launched into space. Get your hubby to sign up, too, and you'd be the cutest couple of any nation to go into space!

Re: Become Canada's next astronaut!
You have to be a medical doctor or dentist, with a PhD, to be considered. I don't have a degree of any kind whatsoever. Plus, I would surely fail the medical due to asthma and anaphylaxis. C'est la vie!
The Canadian government doesn't send rejection letters; you only hear from them if they want to interview you.
I am excited to see who they select though. Canada's two current astronauts are amazing people.

Re: Become Canada's next astronaut!
For NASA, the minimum education requirement is a Bachelor's degree in a science field. But we all know the old joke: "I'm going to apply to be an astronaut!" "Oh yeah? What are you getting your second PhD in?"
Most astronauts have a Master's degree. And a pilot's license.
But the most important requirements are being a smart, friendly team player and a willingness to do OTHER PEOPLE'S science projects.

I have to brag a bit. My nephew, an F-22 pilot, applied during the latest round. He's made the first cut. <---because there's no 'busting buttons proud smiliep51 wrote: I was going to apply for NASA's last astronaut class but didn't when I found my eyesight probably wouldn't allow it and the kidney stone I'd had in the Army for sure disqualified me right there.
