MAT upgrades

I heard through the grapevine that there are some MAT upgrades in the works. The person mentioned a dual unit where you sit side by side with another person. That sounds great and all and will speed up the training time but I think this would be a better option - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ouxhqz7Y7w

Ha! Well, you could fit the whole team on there. Might be a team building experience. The whole side-by-side thing though would certainly preclude your stomach from being the center of gravity, which the instructors say keeps your from getting nauseous. Two people back-to back might work better. As for the whole group.....I guess the one in the center won't puke but the instructors might not want to wait below.

I can't open the link you put in, but a side-by-side MAT doesn't seem like much of an improvement, in that a trainer can't fully monitor two people in a moving MAT at the same time, whether it's two of them or one big one...

Space Camp was at Global Finals 2015 (whatever that is!) and they showed the new MAT.

I didn't know what to make of it at the time--and I still don't--so it hasn't made the front page!

Wow, what an odd design. It makes more sense to me now about getting more people through it. I thought they were side-by-side.

I'm not sure what to make of the MAT 2.0 either. It's not a new design, exactly, as similar ones have been used in science centres for a while.

Apparently the former Space Camp-type training area at KSC has/had one:

Strategic Aire and Space Museum has/had one:
