Funniest ASA moment
What was everyone's funniest moment at camp?
Mine actually happened the night of grad (2002 trip). I stayed the extra night and after supper we were all decided what movie to watch. We were in one of the rooms upstairs in Hab 2 where they had the TV. Te choices were Armaggedon, Batman and a couple others. There were about 20 ASA campers in the room (which was very small). There was a British guy named Jamie. When told of the options he yelled out "We're not watching bloody Batman". With his British accent it was the funniest thing I ever heard. Now whenever I see Armaggedon (which is the movie we watched) I can only think of Jamie.

Well i'll have to think on this one for a while. I guess the funniest thin that i can remember at ASA was when one of the pilots Eileen was on the MAT. I've never heard someone be so scared in my life. /Then when i snapped a picture of her when the thing stopped and she looked sick then she wanted to kill me for taking the picture.

well for this years camp trip i would have to say it was the scuba lecture which was funny because of a direct quote
"Something MUST be rotating!!!!" Miles
As for the explanation i will leave that to Matt!
Last years halarity involved a panel that wasnt really there so for that one i give
"Panel H , Wheres panel H?????????????" Travler
Oh the fun we have at camp

Well Lyn you knew I would just have to reply to this one
This is definately my funniest ASA moment ever!
Okay so me and Chris are sitting there watching these little kids on the MAT. We had nothing better to do really, I guess. So anyway, there's someone on the MAT going round an' round, and this kid walks up to the thing, with a kind of puzzled look on his face. He starts to speak, "Something..." He looks as if he's just figured something out, "Something must be rotating!" The way he said it was just so hilarious, like he'd just come to understand the secrets of the universe. What was even funnier, though, was Chris's and my string of sarcastic comments that followed. "No, kid, nothing is rotating. What do you see rotating there?" "Chris, do you see any rotation?" "Naw Matt, I dont see anything rotating!" This was on our first night and for some reason we were all (and by all, I mean Chris and I) kinda silly. Not to mention Lyn, who was just plain sopiked. We were laughing so hard and couldnt stop. One mention of the word "rotate" and we would burst out in laughter. What made it really funny was how we had to control this in the SCUBA lecture, which wasn't easy. It made for a very interesting lecture. I would whisper "rotate" to Chris and we would die laughing. We had to keep our lecturer from seeing us and hearing us. Man it was so funny. I still die laughing every time I think about it. I guess it's one of those things where you would have had to have been there.
So there you go. That's the story of Miles from New York who discovered that the MAT rotates.

Some... some... something must be rotating!" - Miles

Another funny thing (not just one moment and it's more you had to be there kind of funny) to my team was duct tape. I don't remember who started it but we got to discussing the uses of duct tape. Everyone knows there's 1001 uses for duct tape and we started to add to the list. I think it started by wanting to duct tape one of the guy's mouths on our team. He couldn't shut up. Then, I think it was Monday night we were watching Space Station in the IMAX. It was about 8:30 and we were starting to get tired. Then the part about the Russian space suit came on. The thing is held together by two elastics and we started using that one. It's probably not funny to you guys but during the movie someone on our team called out "1003" as in the 1003rd use for duct tape. That caused some good laughs for those who got it. We weren't really into the movie. I think we got to 1005 uses by the end of the week but I can't remember right now what the other uses were.

We had so many funny moments I can't pick just one! I don't think we stopped laughing all week. My fav. moments have to be on the EDM when we chased Smiley and Lisa around the middeck trying to get our stuff back after it had "floated" away. We got tired of trying to hold them down, so Joe got out his EVA tether and tied them up...together! They got out of that one at the time, but later we managed to strap Smiley into a seat when he went bonkers during a "psychotic episode". Geez, how could we tell? I spent most of the time keeping out of the way and laughing my head off. I can't imagine what the video looked like.
We didn't find the duct tape untill just as the EDM finished or Joe swears he would've tied them up and taped their mouths shut. "Then we would've been rid of them." If you've seen my Ofoto album, then you know which pics I mean.
Another funny moment was making up a sign that said "Al's Garage and Satellite Repair." We held it up during our EVA, and darned if they couldn't read it in MOCR! Too cool....
Speaking of going crazy....one of the guys in MOCR was told to go nuts during the EDM. He got up and was like "I can't take this stress any more. I want to go home." and started wandering around. So another guy grabs him from behind in a bear hug. Crazy guy turns around, throws his arms around him and goes "Mommy, mommy, mommy." LOL!
These were "older" guys too. Gotta love ASA.

I also had a ton of funny moments. When the MSs were doing SCUBA Monday night before the IMAX, the Pilots and PSs went to AC. We kept renaming everything at camp the week I went. When we were touring AC we decided to start calling the lake a plake, since it's more of a pool and a lake combined. We asked the counsellor if we could go play in the plake and he said sure. I don't think he knew what we were talking about. We didn't go in though. We also decided to rename Area 51. Since there is already an Area 51 we figured that there couldn't be to. We started calling it Area 52 but quickly changed that to Area 51-B. I think we renamed some other little things too but that's all I can remember right now. The other one's weren't nearly as fun.

I wasn't there the extra day.... that would've been fun. that week was a blast. but the panama guys sang the entire time... we ended up calling them menudo. and at the end of the week i had to fill out alberto's eval (b/c he couldn't write in english) and his comment for improving camp- "boys and girls sleep together"

Well it sounds like you guys had some charachters on your teams. I think every team has a few. For us it was a girl named Jill who was just craxy.

On the morning after grad when Joel was seeing who was down and who was still in their rooms he was calling everyone who was not down a diva. All 3 panama guys were divas it was so fun. When they finally started to come down, Joel went up, grabbed one of their bags and dragged it down the stairs. It was a funny morning with them. After breakfast them started marching in the cafeteria with Jamie.

Well i dont know if id call it the funniest moment at ASA but we did have a running joke with our team. We had to firls on the team from Wisconsin both of which had strong Wisconsin accents. Well everytime we went to lectures the counselor doing the lecturee would always start talking with a wisconsin accent.

a couple years ago, the week i went it rained almost every day. and we had a really cool counselor, tony, and we all got soaking wet and he put his hair in a mohawk and declared that the next day would be mohawk day and all the guys should put their hair in mohawks and girls would put pony tails on their foreheads... evidently joel heard about it so he ran up to tony and was like- what's this i hear about mohawk day. and tony (still with a mohawk) played dumb. it was funny... i guess... if u were there.... anyways...
