The New Otter's

I just got back from a weekend visit to Sprocket. No occasion, I was just taking advantage of a free pass to enjoy the place in this beautiful early Fall weather. I stayed at the Marriott and I managed to get one last go-around at Otter's before they close it down next week.

On that note, the new bar looks to be a little better than I expected. It fills up the entire lobby area and is self-contained. The bar seats 8 people and will have 6 beer taps. There are flat screen TVs everywhere, although quite small. It appears they are framing up an island bar to go in the center of the room. There is quite a bit of lighting, which I hope they will tone down, since a bar is supposed to be dimly lit. A new food menu will accompany the opening of the bar. We will know the name of the new bar on Tuesday.

Here are some pictures.

Good news, I figured they would still have a bar there. That said, I'm Glad I went to the 'old' Otter's when I was there for SC two weeks ago!

It doesn't look like there are any large tables for a team to gather around. That is disappointing. After AC it was nice to rehash the days events with our teams around a big table in Otters. This looks like it would be difficult to push any tables together.

I think what's being framed up in the center of the room is a long 2-sided bar, which could work for a team gathering. Not sure though. The booth in the back corner next to the main bar is quite large and might could work for a smaller team gathering. I'll go back in a month or so for the daVinci exhibit and check it out again then.

It's just nice to see that one longstanding adult Space Camp / counselor tradition will continue on...
