Things you'd like to see for sale at gift shop or online?

Post by p51 »

Is there anything you'd likely buy from the SC gift shop or online if they had? It can be either things they used to have or never did. Here's my list:

*SC logo pin
*Space Academy pin
*Space Academy patch (heck, a patch for every program they have, really)
*"Movie" Spacecamp patch (they had them for a short while for the 25th anniversary)
*Space Camp 'challenge' coin (google the phrase challenge coin to see what I mean)
*Alumni patches for all programs
*SC polo shirt with the main camp logo
*Embroidered nameplates with the Camp logo, similar to the ones the counselors have but a camper version
*A better Space Center patch than that tiny 'merit badge' looking one

Anything else anyone here would also like to see for sale there?

Id have to agree with all those and a few others of my own.

Bring back the mission patch wall. they use to hav e a wall with the mission patches for every flown american space mission when i was there last year i couldnt even get the last few iss expedition patches and the few poatches they had werent many.
more space camp branded clothing and alumni clothing wih the space camp logo you they once had this stuff by the boat load.
Crew style clothing. Despite popular belief crews do not wear flight suits on orbit on station or on the shuttle when it was flying. even when they wore flight suits on launch and entry they were not worn other than on the launch and entry day. Bring back the old style shorts with vlecro, update the color to the dark blue or the tan now being used on ISS and add the long pants as well. This with a good space camp polo would be more realistic to on orbit crew clothing than the flight sits and cheaper for those who cant afford or dont want to pay for the newer cheaper quality suits

I'm sure i'll think of more but you mentioned some good ones already. By the way challenge coins are often given out at events like the hall of fame dinner i have 2 of them from hall of fame dinners. I also have an Aviation Challenge challenge coin that was made available to staff the year after i worked here thankfully i still had some friends at AC

I kinda like the exclusivness of the challenge coins and would hate for them to be available in the gift shop for the masses to purchase. They are sort of like our "inside" thing that you can only get by coming to the events. I'd rather not see them as an "everybody" item in the gift shop.

I have been working on graphical concepts for patches, t-shirts and hats that will include alumni and trainee-oriented items. When I have them ready to show I will post them here to get ya'lls input before I send them to the mothership.

I agree. While I don't have one, I do have a couple of Lockheed Martin/JSF specific challenge coins. There's something more special about items which are not available to the public, which have to be earned or you can only get at a specific event (kinda like earning...only less overall effort involved). Maybe have a more generic challenge coin available for purchase, but make them different from the ones given at events or to staff.

I'd also like to see more alumni merchandise available. Particularly patches and polo shirts. Tshirts would probably be popular with kids who go to camp. It would be great to have one for each of the programs and I bet they would sell very well. I know I'd buy an Advanced Space Academy polo.

One big one I forgot to add and am shocked that apparently they never made:
A SC sticker
I'd have bought a stack of these had they had them...

They need some clever T-Shirts.

Granted, I'm not sure what such things would say, but I find their current selection pretty boring...

I agree. Remember when they had cool shirts like these?

I've been working on some designs, hats and polos so far, but hope to do some t-shirts too. When I get to a good stopping point I'll share and get input from you guys.

Hotdog, do you know of someone over there to pitch any of these things to? I have the e-mail for the lady who buys for the gift shop, was thinking of forwarding this link to her...

I really like this shirt, and it actually fits! (That's a big compliment from me.)

The t-shirt selection is pretty good right now. They have to change things up from year to year and keep up with the trends. I like Boomerang's suggestion of flightwear - the shorts and polos typically worn on the ISS. Proper flight jackets would also be nice, as would embroidered name tags, even if they had to be ordered two weeks in advance. They used to have individual program patches and sheets of stickers so I wonder what happened to them and if they will return. The Space Camp Store usually stocks up before the summer rush, so there could be some new items on the horizon. Plus, the website doesn't showcase everything they have, so it's possible some of the things you mention do exist.
