MSFC Tours are back

Post by SpaceCanada »

Per Vincent's post on the main page, it looks like tours of Marshall Space Flight Centre are back. I remember these from when I was a youth and how much fun they were. The picnic afterwards was a great time too, a fun time to bond with your team and counsellors in a more casual setting - great memories were made that day! (No word on whether the picnics are back...)

Only one drawback, tours are limited to US citizens only! What will the rest of us (non-Americans) do instead?

Still havent' heard if they're part of camp now or not.
Especially with adult camp which is only 3 days, would they take several hours out of that short timeframe?
I wanna do the tour no matter what, just want to know so I can plan on adding a day at either end to do the tour as a walk-on and not as a camp attendee...

As I recall, the Marshall tours took only a couple of hours out of your Camp time. This was a nice break from the usual "free time" you got to roam the museum. I'll have to break out my old camp schedules to see exactly how much time was actually allotted to this activity.

Buses ran all the time, and MSFC and Redstone are extremely close to the Rocket Center. Tours back in the heyday took you to SpaceLab mission control (now ISS mission control), the Redstone test stand (Natl. Historic Landmark), the F1 and SSME test stand, the neutral buoyancy tank (NASA underwater astronaut trainer), the dynamic test stand, and a few different hangers where you might have seen Boeing space station module mockups or other shuttle hardware depending on what was going on at NASA at the time.

Somehow I doubt the new MSFC tours will be as inclusive, but let's give them time to get things going.

Marshall Tours

Post by Conan »

As I recall, a couple of times the Marshall tour was an optional after-graduation event. That way, it did not impact the schedule at all.

So far it's just me, you, WesL, Richasi and maybe Airkale from here at Hab1. I haven't called to see what times the bus tours will be running that Saturday, but I figured I'd try to plan around a 1:00 or 2:00 tour. Stay tuned to this thread for for more details, and feel free to make any suggestions.

Yes sir. I'm coming down Friday night. Tours are at 11:00 and 2:00 on Saturday. I think we're shooting for the 2:00 tour to give everyone time to arrive. They were supposed to call me back about reserving a group, but I never got the call today so I'm going to call back tomorrow.

Ok guys here's the deal. I have purchased FIVE spots for the 2:00 tour on Saturday. So far, we have me, Wes, Benji and Steve from Hab1 as definates. Richard and Kale are still maybe's. Who wants ticket #5?

Cost is $32. Includes museam admission and a movie. You can pay me cash when we board the bus. I can either hold your ticket for you, or I can leave them at the ticket counter for you to pick up at your leisure. Let me know what you want to do.

*** Make sure you bring a valid drivers license and are a US Citizen or they won't let you on the bus ***

Looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday!

This just in: I no longer have reservations for the bus tour and museum! Everyone will have to get their own tickets for the 2:00 tour due to security reasons. Please show up early (I would recommend noon) to reserve your spot.
