Interesting camp wing nameplate spotted....

I recently noticed this photo on the collect space site by accident:

Clearly, that's a hall of fame awardee jacket, but why isn't that nameplate offered as an option for campers? I love the design and would love to have one just like it (with my own name and no hall of fame wording, of course).
The Space Store (among a few other vendors) has a very similar style wing, with the NASA 'meatball' insignia in the center:

I'm with you! They ought to offer them!
They used to (maybe still do) give such badges out to counselors as well...except the summer I worked there!
Not that I dwell on that!

I'd love to see that offered as well.
As for the counselor name tags the most recent space side ones i have seen and the ones used when i was working their looked like an embroidered set of i believe its the astrotrek wings. they have a normal shield with a space shuttle in the middle and were available to counselors in Gold or silver color. On the Aviation challenge side we had name tags with either Air Force or Navy style wings. the embroidered name tags do look much nicer than the standard leather ones.

I collect military uniforms as my primary hobby and being former military as well as volunteering to crew WW2 airplanes in the past, I have a LOT of nameplates, and could easily wear a different one each day I'm at camp. As a purely money-making thing, you have to wnder why they offer this wing, as the setup costs to get something like this made is the expensive part. Anyone know who i could contact to see if they'd offer them>

I can say that having them available to campers (and the public) would be brilliant!!
Set up costs shouldn't be too much. Adding and changing names is quite easy to do. They already do this with the team mission patches each week - or did - not sure if they still do that. Even if they had to order them in advance for them to arrive during camp week - I could see these being very popular.

I wish I knew someone at Camp to propose this to who could make it happen, but I don’t. Does anyone know someone at Marketing there to pitch the idea to?
Here’s what someone on the collect space forum did to make it ‘normal’ looking:

More detail of the logo on those wings can be found here, they did a great job!

The NASA ones are pretty easy to get, this is the cheapest vendor that has them that I know of:
https://www.nametags4u.com/designer/emb ... /?pid=1148
I have a set already done up, it just has my name on them.
Other vendors have them, but some charge upward of thirty bucks for one.

As late as 2010 counselors were still getting the wings. I didn't get it my first summer as a counselor but was able to get it my second summer.

Counselors still get them and they are as Boomerang described.

I just found this group photo, and I have enlarged some of the nameplates on the flight suits and jackets on the shuttle transporter 747 crew photo.
Note how several of them are wearing gold wings with the NASA insignia in the center (but some are in silver). Until I saw this photo, I assumed this was a made up design. It's the
exact same one that hotdog has on his suit in his last post in this thread!

Random trivia of the day: I asked Hoot Gibson about this once, what the different name badges are, and it was he who helped design the NASA wings for non-military astronauts. I believe his design had the astronaut logo on it though, with the star with there tails on it, like the gold astronaut pin. Pretty cool.
I'll have to look into those name badges. I would love one for my flight suit. Thanks for the link!
Edited to add:
I found a good image of the non-military astronaut name tags

Yeah, The Space Store has them for $30, though theirs are actually manufactured (and delivered) by Gibson & Barnes (who I believe also makes NASA's tags--Gibson & Barnes at least makes most of NASA's other flight equipment). Theirs are more accurate than Nametags4u's reproduction, though it still has a few inaccuracies compared to the real thing.
Here's a picture of The Space Store's (along with some real ISS nametags, just ignore those

)
And here's a good photo of some real astronaut nametags (This photo is taken from a NASA document)
Based on
a thread on CollectSPACE, the style of wings with just the meatball is for the NASA AOD (Aircraft Operations Divison), which explains why the SCA pilots have them.
