So the countdown begins

Post by DanM »

Yesterday my dad signed me up for ASA MS Track, June 26-July 1.
:D

What exactly should I expect/know/bring?

How does it compare to Space Camp and Academy? Is it like the last two on steroids?

Yay, congratulations on going to camp again!

Vincent used to have some programme descriptions on the old site but I cannot find them now... Vincent?

Unless things have changed drastically, and I doubt they have, ASA is certainly SA on steroids - more missions, more sims, more briefings. You will get an extended duration mission (EDM) which is 6 hours long in Enterprise, Mission Control, and the ISS. At the 3 hour mark the orbiter and station crews switch with eachother like a crew change, although not entirely accurate but I digress...

The pilots get to fly sims at AC whilst the MSs go SCUBA diving at the UAT (or take photos of the MSs if you have a medical condition that prohibits you from diving.) Some weeks also have SCUBA for the pilots.

The briefings are more in depth and some activities will be more complex. You still get to do many of the same sims (5G, MAT, etc.), build and launch rockets, have team time, museum time, and all that.

There's more and hopefully others will chime in with more recent information.

Have a great trip!!

I'm leaving Sunday. In the week before the trip, a lot has happened. On Tuesday morning, my grandfather passed away. That evening, a tornado went through my yard and left me without power until yesterday evening.

Respecting my grandfather's wishes, I am not going to let his passing get in the way of having a good time. However, one good thing that happened to me this week is that my doctor cleared me to eat food containing eggs (I'm allergic to eggs), which makes my trip much easier.

Wow, an eventful week indeed. Good to hear your grandfather wished you off to camp before he passed. And awesome news about outgrowing your egg allergy - food allergies suck...

It looks like you'll have a lot to celebrate at camp this week. Have a great time and tell us all about it upon your return!

God bless you, Dan! Though you probably won't get this message, seeing as you left today, I pray that you have an amazing time. :)
