OK, as the title says, I was the propusions officer for the extended duration mission. Amazing how I got all that in 7 letters and a number. I've been hanging around NASA and engineers too long. Anways, on to the stories...

Morphine and Enterprise Do Not Mix...
During the beginning of the mission, we had almost all the people in the orbitor pass out for some unknown reason just before Press to ATO except for the pilot (who passed out once in orbit) and a payload specialist. And so, the PS wanted to get everyone up and running so we could have everything go on time. He ended up over-dosing almost everyone with Morphine. The crew went nuts. The Commander had no real problems, fortuniatly, but the Pilot was a whole nothing story. We saw a Black Hole in the cockpit at first and paniced. Then, someone in the Mid-deck, also on a Morphine-high, thought Enterprise was on fire. Instead of trying to surpress the fire, he wanted out. And he got out to. Before someone was able to restrain him, he opened the air-lock and killed everyone onboard. So there was a wonderful sing-along to bring everyone back. The pilot, however, was still high on Morphine even after the song. He started seeing spiders in on the Flight Deck. FLIGHT and CAPCOM finally started listening to my suggestion and told the pilot to do exactly what he had to do to get rid of a few C/W alarms by saying doing so would get rid of the spiders. Ended up working, somehow. By the time the procedure was finizhed, the morphine wore off.

Don't Trust the Station Much Either...
Guess what! Another story based around Morphine. This one is not as funny at first, but it gets there. In the beginning, one of the PSs is knocked out. But no one pays any attention. She just lies there for a while. Then, an MS gets sick, so the remaining PS is running all over the station to find the Medical Anomily Book. She treats the MS and then notices the PS is down. So, she runs over and treats the PS. Once the PS comes around, the one who treated her asked what happened. The response: "I was hit in the head by the Medical Anomoly Book." About the time this is solved, the treated MS flips out. Remember who I said this was another Morphine story? Well, it turned out to be yet another OD. So she had to be straped to the "spinny chair" to keep her still. I think that is it for the Morhpine horror stories...

Fire on the Station!
This story is rather self-explanitory. There was a fire on the ISS. Of course, they tried to get it stopped fast. The found the proper FSS, but no one used it properly. They kept getting thrown up against the wall and being injured until someone was finally smart enough about space to realize they were not bracing themselves. I could have told them this, but, by this time, I was suffering from both an actual Caffenine-high (too many sodas since it was the late-night EDM) and trying to figure out how to get the Hohmann transfer done right.

Well, I gotta go for now Expect more later.

Colonel, it's all you, you, you. Do you bring me anything? Did you bring me anything? :P Just messing with you. Yeah, I got you the shirt you wanted. I made sure not to forget it. I didn't get to many pictures, sadly. Not enough time. The counselors had us jumping from place to place to place. Sorry about that, bud. Maybe next year.

Now, on to some more stories, following the short break for dinner. Oh, actually, before I do that, do tell me. If a guy buys a girl dinner, do they generally force money upon the guy equal to the about of food they ate?

MOCR has its own problems...
This one is going to be quick. It was just a huge problem with MOCR at the end. You see, EVA actually got sick and the PS were trying to treat her until she said that she was truely sick. SO both PSs returned to their seats. Then Flight got physically sick. All this time, Prop's (my) contacts had slipped so I couldn't see much on the screen. This leaves CAPCOM, SSPI, and SHPI as the only ones in good, working order. Of course, CAPCOM, being Spanish, had a hard time trying to explain to the orbitor what was going on. And then, SSPI had to go get a fax from the station when he "pulled the wires of the machine and was electricuted (anomily)" so SHPI had to go help him out. All this happened right as landing started, leaving all of MOCR in a really bad state, without FLIGHT, SSPI, and SHPI, a PROP who was having trouble seeing, and a CAPCOM who was having trouble cominicating. But, at least, the shuttle managed to land.

Well, that's all for now in the MOCR department. I'll see what else I can think up. Until then, have a good laugh at our problems.

EDM stories

Post by ISSpaceGirl »

Last year when i went to ASA in late august, the councilors had had a whole summer to come up with nasty suprises for our EDM. One of our 'space ghosts' had taken a distinct disliking to me in the first hour b/c he had nocked out both of our PS and (as i have been a PS before, but this time i was an MS) i had hopped right in and fixed a problem he had wanted to last for a while. Also, having been there before, I divereted several accidents by grabbing stuff just before it could blow away. Well, they decided we were going to get caught in a metor shower and one punctured the mid deck. I was franticlly trying to find a patch and using a not so good temperary one. One of the PS's had just found a suitible patch and was bring it over when the 'space ghost' decided we were too close. he had a chair nock me unconcious and the patch sucked through the whole some how. It was so frustrating b/c this was the late night EDM. In the end though we were able to fix the hole and get back to normal operations, but he had made a mess of the mid deck and set us back in our time schedual. It was rather annoying and amusing.

Counselors at ASA seem to be determined to kill all the campers in the EDM's. Makes it fun but i think id like some time where you dont have to be frantic trying to fix 10 diffrent things at once. The majority of space flights have verry few problems. The ASA counselors make it seem like every mission is apollo 13.

yeah, but thats when its the most fun. everyone is dying around you and you have to figure out why. its that adrinaline rush that i live for. it wouldnt be worth it to do the edm without all the problems. and in training all astronauts are train for worst case senarios.

That's one of the reason I always thought MOCR was the best place to be! Things just can't go wrong to the same extent in the same way they can in Mission Control!!!

well when i was there i stayed at the station through out the whole edm i didnt switch with one of the ps's in the orbiter man that room is so small and i almost wound up killing everyone by opening the airlock too quickly in the 1 hr missions also i managed to nearly kill everyone againg because i took out both lioh canisters yes 1 guy almost killed everyone on the orbiter twice. well any ways we had so much stuff go down in the station that i was getting all confused first we had a fire then a leak then a pee overload yes we were swimming in pee at one point then after the first 3 hours we had a crew change the we had the thinking anomilies like the false alert meteor shower who if it hadnt been for me taking the risk of going back in would have been in the columbus module for 3 hours then we had some guy go crazy dont know if it was real or an anomily but then we had the true meteor shower but couldnt turn to mocr since they [had other problems]. well during the meteor shower we were banging our helmets together just for fun then we started singing twinkle twinkle just for fun yeah we were that bored. then we came back and we were ahead of schedule so we were wondering why power was offline when we had the solar array panel was deployed (we were on the dark side of the earth) while i was in charge only 1 time did everyone die because of the fire (i was delusional, agitated, and hysterical) we had a former ms be a ps during the edm

I remember one anomoly we had on the space station wemade even worse by not paying attention. We had a solar flare and had to exacuate to the other module whos name i dont remember. Well we evacuated just fine but we forgot to take a headset with us so we had no contact with mission control. We tried to get the attention of the shuttle crew with our camera but never did we wanted them to contact mocr and get an all clear then have mocr tell the shuttle we were clear and then the shuttle use their camera to tell us but we could never get the shuttles attention probably because of their own anomolies.

Ironically, that reminds me of another of our anomilies. We had a complete communications breakdown with the station, but no one realized that at first. So, SSPI kept trying to call the station, but the line kept going to SpaceHab

Well after what happened that first time we decided that if we had to evacuate to the other module again that everyone should grab a headset to make sure we had one.
