From the Earth to the Moon

Post by Mercergl »

Speaking of all of these early NASA documentaries, has anybody seen the HBO mini-series From The Earth To The Moon? It's about the Apollo program and produced by Tom Hanks. I love this series, I bought it as soon as I got back from camp last year, where they showed us the Apollo 15 episode. There are some really good episodes, and I especially like the Apollo 12 one, and the one that shows the desgining and building of the LM

I got it for Christmas when it first came out on VHS. I recently bought it on DVD when the price came down so now I have 2 copies.

My two favorite episodes are "Is that all there is?" about Apollo12 and (the name escapes me) the episode about the construction of the Lunar Lander.

*Pete Conrad story alert*

I got to meet Pete Conrad when he was promoting his series on the Speed Channel several years ago. HBO had just played the Apollo 12 episode of From the Earth to the Moon and I asked him what he thought of it.

He was PISSED! He said "I NEVER cussed in front of kids! Remember that scene where I was cussing in front of those kids? I NEVER cussed in front of kids!" I said "But Pete, in that scene it showed you never saw the kids, so how would you have known if you did it or not?" He thought for a second and then said "I NEVER cussed in front of kids.....that I knew of." and then gave me that "Pete Conrad smile" of his. :D
