Errata on the New Space Camp Site

Just like with the last new site, I figured I'd start a new thread to address any errors found on the new site in an effort to help Space Camp make the best possible presentation on the web.

If anyone cares to add to the list, please make sure you include a link to the page that you spot an error and list the error itself.

To keep things organized, please make a new post for each error you find.

New page problem

Where: the Museum Volunteer Opportunities page

Link: http://www.spacecamp.com/details.php?ca ... ER_POS.doc

Problem details: All this page currently has on it besides the new navigation panels and the flash header are the words “Museum Overviewvolunteer/VOLUNTEER_POS.doc”

I hope this report is detailed enough so that the webmaster can correct this bug.

Thank you for the feedback on the site- all comments, broken links and display issues are appreciated.

The first issue is a link missing "http://" before the address and the second issue is a result of a configuration issue. I'll snag both of these monday morning (or if I swing into Huntsville to visit the Apple store - I'll stop into work and get them today)

I'll also add this report for myself:

where: Registration - Guides & Forms

Details: Javascript it not working on IE 6 to show the forms for a selected program

Solution: I need to hack the code to always display for IE 6 or just remove the javascript entirely.

Where: Volunteers

Details: Apostrophes are not displaying properly

Solution: remove UTF-8 characters

The originating link was being redirected to the reported url in error- the configuration was corrected and the Volunteer opportunities are now available for download from the volunteer page

Also coming soon to that area is the International Ambassador program.

The old international page was built on a site design from several years back and it degraded. Basically it was a single image, cut into tiny squares and placed together on the page, but when parts of the puzzle went missing (namely the previous header/menu) - the other puzzle bits lost track of their positioning, which is what caused the displacement

Your opinion is welcome!

Ironically this site design is actually 200 pixels wider than the previous design, which is more fitting with our user's screens. CNN went to a similar format and size last summer -with about 800 pixels for content and information and 200 pixels down the right side for ads and other navigation/information.

If you -or anyone- has suggestions for other features or additions to the site I'd love to hear about them.
Mercergl wrote:The old one was a little flashier and more interesting
What you are seeing is stage one of the design, I'll be dropping in Alumni Highlights, more videos and (better) photos, some fun facts about camp and hopefully much more interaction in terms of games/quizzes and activities for all ages. So there's more "flash and interesting" on the way!

The difficulty in this thus far was simply converting the information into the new format - some of it still looks a little off, or had errors in the previous text no one had noticed till we got the new design up.

I REALLY appreciate every bit of help you guys have given checking things out and posting here - keep up the great work!

Whoa! Nice improvement. The only issue I have is that once the map is activated the drop down menus at the top are only partially visible in their down state because they are behind the map, if that makes sese.

South Korea? India? Oman? Egypt? My ears are perked...

I am imterested to hear more about this ambassadors programme too. You know, me being an international Space Camp nerd and all...

hrm here's definitely a need for me to kick the inactive programs to a 404 page

The category listing pages verify the category exist- but I'm not checking for a valid program- so you can do weird stuff like this until I fix it:

http://www.spacecamp.com/details.php?ca ... +loves+max

Do you happen to remember where you found the link to
link: http://www.spacecamp.com/details.php?ca ... Field+Trip"

That's what actually needs to be changed (the link is incorrect) - altough it revealed the greater issue.

The other page you mention was one I missed. I'll get on this tomorrow hopefully- been in Barbie Land lately!

Ha! I am going to be laughing all day because of this. (Moreso because I got on a laughing streak last night that I have yet to get out of my system.)
