Good article!
When I attended Adult Space Academy in September 2003, a girl on our team was totally blind. I had the honor of having her as my other mission specialist on the Hubble Servicing Mission. Not only did she strap into the 5DF chair, but she also performed the entire mission requirements without missing a beat.
Sure, I had to talk her through some of the steps - like pulling out the module, how we were going to swing it around, etc; and helped her perform those tasks... but I was amazed at how well she did without being able to see at all.
I bet watching and teaching these kids is amazing. I'd love to see it one day.

My counselors Valerie and Casey talked about working with the SCIVIS sessions. They both really enjoyed it. They said that one of the most interesting things is that most of the kids had no issues at all with the pamper pole. I guess, not being able to see, it isn't a big deal for them to climb up thirty feet in the air and then jump off the pole. I'm betting they have better than average balance too.
I also asked about how it works with the sessions for hearing impared kids. Apparently there's lots more monitors and lots of sign language interpreters to help deal with the communications, especially during the missions. That would be very interesting to see.
Regardless of disabilities, I'm sure the kids have a blast, just like the rest of us.

I recently also found a Space Camp article in a local news paper, which had a write up taken from the Los Angeles Times. Even had a counselor of one of the Parent/Child Teams that I recognize... Nice to see that the USSRC is making the news.
