Thanks LB206....great to see those shots of the VA Air+Space Center down there off of Mercury Blvd. I haven't been in there during my last few TDYs to LAFB, but did manage to stop in during a TDY in 2000. Will have to visit again my next LAFB TDY (they've been coming frequently lately...)

i had no idea there was that much there to see at Langley. I guess i am still going by the 1986 brochures i have. apparently they have come a long way since then!

Well the 1986 brochure is the old visitor center. That museum closed about 1990 and was replaced with the current museum that opened in 1992. The new museum is 9 stories tall has 3 floors A large main floor above which you see the aircraft hanging. And 2 smaller galleries. The Adventures in flight gallery which opened in 2003 replacing an older local history section this is where you see the DC-9, B-24, stearman, piper cub wright flyer A-6 basicaly any of the planes that arent in the more open space. And this weekend we open the new Space Quest Moon Mars and Beyond Gallery which is a complete remodel of our older space the final frontier gallery. this is phase one of the remnodelling seen in those pictures phase 2 and 3 will begin next year. The new museum also has a 3-D Imax theater
By comparison the older visitor center was a one story building with 2 galleries one space, one aviation. Its gift shop was actually more ofa gift counter the only aircraft were small models. /many of these models are now on display in our Sea to the Stars display casses near the entrance to the museum. The one cool thing about the old visitor center was it was located on NASA Langley Research center where the current museum is not.
