8-Day Programme in Review!

Post by SpaceCanada »

I still don't understand why it is called the Christmas Camp if it doesn't include Christmas Day... but alas... the reason I created this thread was to give the newly returned 8-day campers a place to spill their beans. I, and I am sure many others, cannot wait to read all your stories, play-by-plays, and see all the pictures from the lates 8-day programme. Even more, this thread can give everyone a chance to tell stories from the previous 8-day programmes that we couldn't say before and compare the various weeks.

I shall stop typing now so that you can write... :D

I haven't been able to get the photos up yet, I'm hoping to do so tonight. I had a blast and my team kicked butt. I'm really glad I wasn't on Team Hab 1 because I wouldn't have gotten to hang out with Adam Gittleman!!!

Who is Adam Gittleman?

(Googled his name: Is he the lad who got to talk to the ISS astronauts?)

Well I would have liked Adam, but he was mean to our team once. He yelled at Jerry to take us to Robotics!

Yeah he did say that we should go to robotics RIGHT NOW!!! or not go at all. which i thought was rather demanding considering his non-counselor status.

Some questions for the recent 8-day graduates:

- Did you get to fly from Houston to KSC using the sims over at AC?
- Did anyone's egg survive?
- Did anyone get to do the bubble helmet SCUBA?
- Who were your counsellors for the week? the EDM?
- Where is this acclaimed 'sims pit'? (I don't even know what the sims pit is!)
- Did you get to build water rockets?
- What EVAs were there in your EDM?

Space Canada:

-Yes

-Yes! All but benji's team but their eggstronaut had a nice ceremony.

-No

-Atlantis had Jerry/Karey Enterprise had Lenny and someone else that i cant remember. Pretty much everybody there worked on the 24.

-The sims pit is located behind enterprise station which if you arnt familiar with the tcf is located behind discovery/some weird russian name. If you still have no idea what i'm talking about imagine that you're standing at the uat tank looking parallel to enterprise its in the back wall that you're looking at. (i dont know if that helped at all lol)

-We did indeed build water rockets.

-I dont know what evas enterprise did (actually they did the one on the side of station but i dont know what their other on was) but meg and i were the first advanced team to do a new one that smiley just built. It took us 2.5 hours! And thats not cause we were bad either lol. Just cause it was so new... We only did one though becuase 2.5 hours is a long time to be in the suits and another one might have made us die lol.

Yeah I got to fly from Houston to Kennedy except Sara and I were shot down four times from ground fire at 17,000 20,000 30,000 and 45,000 feet - I guess you can never escape the ground fire! (Especially flying over Texas) Anyway, we never made it and after 3 ejections, they reset us at the Fightertown airport nearby and we took the 12nm trip in record time! As for the sims pit I did not think anything of it, apparently there is some hab1 thing there... I guess I never noticed it. Although the fridge was handy for drinks during the EDM

Thanks for the pictures Benji!

It's nice to see everyone having a good time.

Some comments:
We never did air rockets, although they look fun.
Phil must put propellers atop all of his rockets...
We only ever founf the first stage of 'Lil Teapot', or rocket... we hope our eggstronaut's survival training has kept it alive and safe since...

Space Nerd, what was the 2.5 hour new EVA you mentioned?

I now know where the sims pit is - never knew what that area was called before. We went back there after Graduation for a bit to check it out, but I never saw any Hab1 patches or anything. (Partially because I wasn't looking for one!)

FYI: The EVA on the side of the station was to construct a Canadarm using some harnesses hung from above using cranes so you can move vertically.
