I don't like the bill either, but for different reasons. The government provides everyone with free education for their children. Our education system may suck, but that's what it is. Instead of becoming active and helping fix the problem, people are taking the vouchers and going to private schools. That really annoys me.

Well unfortunately the public schools just don't give as high a quality of education. And actually it seems that home schooling in general seems to be the best education wise beating even the private schools.

The thing I like most and that my parents like most about private schools is that you get a group of parents and students who really care. They aren't usually going to blow off classes for no good reason and the parents take a genuine interest in their kids education. I agree that the public schools need some work, but one or two parents aren't going to be able to change anything. Maybe if you had enough parents, but the kids at my school all come from different school districts. Last year at Plainfield, the seniors broke a bunch of rules during their senior prank and posed a health threat too so they were punished. The parents, instead of supporting the school system for following through with the punishments wrote nasty letters to the school paper regarding it and were very upset with the school. Personally, I don't think those parents are going to do much to improve the school. I have to agree with Jason and say that the only reason I don't like the bill, is that it gives the govt. pull in the private schools, which have a better record than the public schools.

Also public school standards tend to be less than alot of private schools. And if the government gets there hands into the private schools by giving them money then they can hold that over there heads and start controlling more of how private schools are run which could bring there standards down.

The problem with my our public school sysyem is there is not enough funding. Many of the teachers care about the students but because of lack of funding there is only so much they can do.

Supposedly the schools around here keep getting more money, but their test scores keep dropping.

We are ranked something like 48th in the country in education...(North Carolina)...that is why I went to private school. I dont have a whole lot of money, but I sat around in public school and stared at the wall. I didnt really have to work at all. But I got what I wished for. I have been going to my school since 6th grade and have been going for 5 years now. I have never worked so hard...which I guess is a good thing. Speaking of working hard, I have finals tomorrow morning at 830 so maybe I should sleep now.

My parents didn't intend to put me in private school at first. I mean, the whole reason we moved to Plainfield is because of the schools. I missed the kindergarten cut-off date by like 30 days so they put me in preschool at a local private school and I was doing the same if not more advanced work as my friend who was in kindergarten at Plainfield. It basically, just continued like that and everyone we knew who had kids at Plainfield, told them not to put me in Plainfield, because I would be bored out of my mind.

Well i have to admit not all private schools are better than public. I went to a private school in first grade then got held back in first grade at the same private school but thats another story. Any way my brother started at the school in kindergarden my second year at the school. Well then we both transfered to a diffrent private schookl the next year a much better one. I into second grade my brother into 1st. Well they had to send him back to kindergarden because the kindergarden at the new school taught stuff that alot of students don't learn till first grade. So obviously the first private school wasnt up to the standards of the second one i atteneded.

Each province has a different ciriculum and different amounts of money to spend on schooling. Alberta has one of the best systems in the country and probably the most money because we are a richer province. There is still a lack of funding though. The problem with lack of funding is is causes class sizes to be bigger and some books are a bit outdated but it is getting better. Our system is better than other places though. The University of Alberta is a great research university and we get students from all over the world come to attend it. After school a lot of students go to the US because they are highly educated and make more money in the States.

It does depend on the private school, I agree. My mom teaches kindergarten at the school where I went to elementary school and they learn how to read. If they aren't reading by the time they are out of kindergarten they usually get held back.

Well here in the US education in the public schools can varry greatly from state to state. Each state and sometimes even cities have there own curiculum. Plus since our tax dollars pay for the schools higher income areas tend to get more funding for there schools.

I go to a public school and you know what its not great but I enjoy myself. First we have a good engieering program and most of the Honors teachers have better control of the students. Plus most of the students in the Honors program at least give some sort of care. Thing you also have to rember most of the scores of what place your school is in is the dumb stanrdized testing which if every school in the world did we would all be copies of each other with no differnce in the world.
