theres nothing about it on the website, so how do you sign up? just call and say you want a special session? obviously the kids that just got back from camp know about it, but how is everyone else supposed to know? my dad wants more info about it before he'll commit. if i go it will be the second session. do they let you see fireworks for the fourth of july? thad be fun.

I guess they figured we'd post it here! I haven't seen anything on their site either, so I guess you just call and ask them about it.

Yeah, I find it a bit odd. I think they need to get more adept at getting the word out!

I figured they'd surely post something on the web today, but since they didn't, I'll call them (again) tomorrow and get all of the details worked out and posted here.

For those who no longer read the front page, I've posted the following:
Those that went to Christmas camp last week were the first to be informed of the following (amazing) news:

24 Hour EDM's are Back!
(partially, at least)

Space Camp will have several special sessions this summer for ASA where the Extended Duration Mission will be 24 hours instead of the now shortened six hour EDM's.

Many moons ago, the EDM's were 24 hours long. Later, they were shortened to 12 hours. When the program was changed to Advanced Space Academy from Space Academy Level II, they were shortened to six hour missions.

The offering of 24 hour EDM's again is definitely a step in the right direction!

If you're interested in going, the weeks will be:

May 29 - June 5
July 3 - July 10
August 7 - August 14

In addition to normal ASA sessions, for each of these weeks, there will be one team consisting of those that will be going on a 24 hour EDM. Camp will start on Saturday and go to the following Saturday. Graduation will be at 11am on Saturday. Mission Specialists flying in and out are asked not to fly out earlier than 3pm on Saturday (since the 24 hour EDM will have a SCUBA component for MS's).

In addition to the 24 hour EDM, additional training and speakers will be provided.

To participate in one of these special sessions, you must previously have attended a Space Camp program.

With increased activity comes an increased cost. If you register for one of the 24 hour EDM sessions by March 15, it will cost $1149 (I believe the cost if you register after this date, provided there are any spots left, will be $1299).

If you previously signed up for a week under the $649 Early Bird Special and wish to change to one of these 24 hour EDM spots, it will cost an additional $300.

This is great! Hopefully, this will be available every year as an option.
I believe that clears up everything. If there's something I forgot to find out, please let me know and I'll go get some additional info.

ahh thanks vincent! my dad is really close to saying yes, haha, im just going to print out what you said cuz my dad is like okay people you know online on a message board..yea. but yeah. he told me to try to find the cheapest air fare..which is a good sign.
so heres a question, on the space camp site theres a link to a coupon for some %, 15 i think off a delta flight if you call a number..is that their lil travel agent? i used that the first time i went and it was a lot cheaper when i just did it online the second time. sohave you guys used that? or what. hmm. theres a 85% chance i'll be at the second session. its like half the money i have saved up for college stuff..and it will take a week out of the limited time in the summer i'll have to work...BUT ITS WORTH IT.
wish me luck with the persuasion!

I was under the impression that you get a reduced fare off of the full fare price when you fly Delta and mention that you're going to Space Camp.

The best advice is to just look around the internet (Travelocity, Expedia, etc.), find the best price, and then see what price they're offering with that deal.

Go with the lowest one...

Lost messege

Yesterday I thought I posted a message about me applying for 24 EDM camp. I am going the 2nd week. When I called yesterday the people at the reservation office had no clue about the discount for the people who went to Christmas Camp of 03 - 04. There are two copies about the 24 EDM. One copy that the reservation office has which talks about upgrading from regular summer session to the special sessions for $300 dollars. The copy that was handed out to us who went to Christmas Camp said it would be cheaper for us to go if you register before Jan 31st.

I get the feeling this was put together just recently; that they just decided to do it. No one there really seems to be too sure just yet and there's absolutely no mention of it anywhere on the website (including the online reservation system) that I could see.

They get an A+ for bringing back the 24 hour EDM but a C- for organization.

I know im a little off topic with this one, but i have done my AC and ASA visits around the 4th of July, unfortunately, no they dont let you see fireworks, there arent usually any big ones to see anyway, though on e+e it ads something to the experience to hear them in the backgound

My first trip to Space Camp was over the 4th of July and I'm happy to say the USSRC had a pretty big fireworks display that year!

The night of the 4th everyone went out into Rocket Park to watch.

Of course, I've heard that that was the last (and possibly the first) time that happened.

...and yes, that was off topic.

They decided to do this for sure on Dec. 31. The staff found out it was happing just before we did and they got the details at the same time the campers did. I get the feeling that they made Jan. 7 the first day to register in order to give them time to get everyone up to speed, but I guess they just didn't have enough time.

I know this is off topic still, but last summer was really cool b/c I left on the fourth of July and we drove home that night and got to see fireworks in like 3 or 4 different states.

Come on, you know you want to!

Also, anyone know if there is just one team per session doing the 24 hour missions?
And what about the training missions? Are they any longer?
:drools: Mmmmm...extra long training missions. Tasty!
I moved this from the "Special Session Campers Check-In" thread so as not to pollute it with non-check-in posts which Vincent would probably delete anyway (and rightly so).

1. Yes, we should do something to signify we're Hab1.com members. That would be awesome.
2. I'm pretty sure there's only one speciat team/session. There's only one Enterprise and they were pretty specific that the EDM would be 9 am Friday to 9 am Saturday.
3. There was mention of extra training sessions, but I'm not sure exactly what they meant.

Thank you
