Well its good that things seem to be improving. Hopefully it will continue to do so. Its unfortunate that it took an accident to do it but the columbia accident seems to have renewed some intrest in space flight.

Smiley says that after anything bad happens, more kids come to camp. It is a trend. Enrollment skyrocketed after Challenger and now Columbia has it going up yet again.

Well i wish the attendance was going up for better reasons but any boost in attendance is better than none.

It's too bad that attendance goes up after a tragedy, but no one pays any attention to the program until a tragedy too.

Unfortunately your right noone cares till something goes wrong. I mean loom at the STS-107 mission the day before the accident there was haedly any coverage of the mission and realy very little during the two weeks it was in space. Sure CNN carried the launch for a few minutes but mainly their coverage was about Ilan Ramone being the first Israeli astronaut and how NASA had tightened security even more because of having him on the crew. The landing it seld might have gotten 5 minutes of coverage and most likely it would have been less than that because they ussualy start it just before touch down. But then the accident happened and CNN had 24 hour coverage the first day and nearly as much in the next few days afterwards. And now the coverage gas slowed trememndously again. Sure the return to flight will get big coverage and i;m sure STS-118 will as well since it carried the first Teacher Astronaut but beyond that space coverage is back to normal. we have 2 mars probes scheduled to launch in June but the only coverage i see of it is on space.com and other sights of that type.

I hate admitting what you say is true because it's sad, but it's soooo true.

I wrote a 6 page lit paper on how that is a huge paradox of progress. Everyone in the room agreed with me that read it.

Well unfortunately people are atrackted to watching bad stuff. I mean even i'm giuilty of it like most people when you drive by an accident you want to look for some morbid reason. Well unfortunately it seems to be the same way with the general public with big accidents like Columbia as well.

Yes, they just kept showing it falling from the sky over and over again and I kept watching it. On a sort of lighter note, my softball bus blew a tire once, and we just pulled over to the side of the road no big deal. We were standing around on the highway for maybe 15 minutes until someone came and got us, and traffic stopped moving on both sides of the road until the "accident" was cleared up. It didn't even have to be a real accident for traffic to halt. We started waving at people that were staring at us and getting trucks to honk, so it wasn't too bad.

LOL you shouldnt encourage people to look even more that could cause a real accident.

Yes, I should know better. But you know as well as I do that that hasn't really stopped me from waving at cars and doing other stuff.
